What made our wedding offbeat: We made our wedding offbeat by keeping the decorations simple, but with tons of personal touches. We actually had three beach houses on N. Topsail Beach for everyone to stay in for the entire weekend. We made our own invitations, programs, favor boxes, centerpieces and cupcake toppers. Everyone close to us contributed in some way. My bouquet was made by the Maid of Honor, out of hand sculpted and painted birds. We made the groomsmen handkerchiefs with a variety of mustaches for them to wear.

Location & date of wedding: Friend's beach house in Southern Shores, NC — October 11, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We were on an extremely tight budget, so we cut out a lot of traditions that didn't matter to us. The groom's family is from Scotland, so we had a handfasting ceremony and Quaich ceremony.

What made our wedding offbeat: My husband wanted to wear a Great Kilt in his family's tartan, so we decided to use the 18th century as inspiration and the plans grew from there.

Location & date of wedding: March 2007 at the oldest Unitarian church in the South, the Unitarian Church of Charleston

What made our wedding offbeat: The concept for our wedding was planned over drinks in a tapas bar the night after the proposal. We decided we wanted a fun party that paid tribute to one of our favorite cities, New Orleans. Everything fell into place after that.
