The Offbeat Bride: Melissa, Administration Officer (and OBT member!)

Her Offbeat Partner: Joshua, Carpenter

Location & date of wedding: Brisbane Registry Office, Australia, — Saturday, March 21 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: First of all, we married interstate and planned everything online and made about 80% of our purchases and decisions online.

We got up early and picked up our own flowers direct from the market florist where Josh said he enjoyed talking to the owner who was walking around making bouquets. We also got ready together and made sure the day itself was about us we could spend our time with everybody else later.

The Offbeat Bride: Chelsea, Asst. Manager @ Hot Topic

Her Offbeat Partner: Keith, Sound Technician

Location & date of wedding: Maybery Gelvin Botanical Gardens, Mahomet, IL — 6/6/09

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding was offbeat from the start, because planning was laid back. We got things done on our own time, and planned to do it all on our own. Our budget was small, about $5000 but we made it work! We had a local band play and everyone danced their tooshies off! A friend DJ'd for us, my aunt made 300 cupcakes(!!), a family friend made the cake, we designed our invites and printed them locally, made our own caketoppers, had my uncle and bridesmaid photograph the wedding, and generally did what we could to keep things personal!

So you're thinking to yourself, "Self, if a rockabilly bride gets the hot pin-up hair, then what does a pychobilly groom to do keep up with the hotness?"

Answer: Mofo rocks a mohawk!

23.

And then you're thinking, "Self, what about the shoes? Those rockabilly brides get all the cute shoes — what would a hottie groom wear so as not to be outdone by her hounds-tooth pumps?"

Answer: Leopard creepersDUH, Self!

And finally, in this long monologue with yourself, you're thinking, "And what about the hottie psychobilly's groomsmen? How would they look?"

Tada:
38.

Part of what I love so much about Offbeat Bride is that I feel like it's all about finding inspiration outside of my little aesthetic bubble. For instance, I'm soooo not a native of the goth/industrial/fetish scene, but I can find about 10 inspiring things in the wedding photo below, which is from Severina & Seraphim's Seattle handfasting:

… In what unexpected places have YOU found inspiration?

(Thanks to the lovely ladies of the OBT for finding this photo!)
