Well, that didn’t take long! As seen on OBB yesterday, here’s the full scoop on Sandy’s colorful wedding and her Christmas ornament bouquet.

The offbeat bride: Sandy - high school secretary/craft maniac

Her offbeat partner: Josh - middle school social studies teacher/musician

Location & date of wedding: 3/15/08 at Butler’s Courtyard in League City, TX

What made our wedding offbeat: We wanted the wedding to reflect us as a couple and be memorable, but we also didn’t want to alienate any family members or make them feel uncomfortable along the way. We wanted to express ourselves while still making everyone feel welcome. We chose a rather traditional venue, but it still had enough character and history (we both majored in history) to make us fall in love with it. Also, the owners seemed to really be on board with any and all ideas we had, so that made it excellent.

I just wanted another great idea a friend of mine did recently at her wedding which was a roaring success. On the r.s.v.p. card they included:

Instead of paying for an expensive d.j., they hooked up their laptop, after downloading everybody’s tunes and had a friend play the list. The dance floor was packed all night long!

What made our wedding offbeat: We planned our wedding as one big party that just happened to be kicked off by our ceremony. I wore mini battery-powered Christmas lights in my hair instead of a veil. My bridesmaid, maid of honor and I all have (and displayed) tattoos. My husband walked down the aisle to Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” and I walked to “If You Want My Love” by Cheap Trick. Halfway down the aisle my maid of honor (a huge Cheap Trick fan) threw her arms up in the air and rocked out the rest of the way to the “altar,” which cracked me up and broke a lot of my nervous tension.

The offbeat bride: Susan Beal, writer (and Offbeat Bride lab rat!)

My offbeat groom: Andrew Dickson, artist

Location & date of wedding: August 7, 2005, Contemporary Crafts Museum, Portland, Oregon

What made our wedding offbeat: We got married by our good friend Diane in the Church of Craft, at a craft museum, and threw a big party afterwards, so it really reflected the two of us! We DIYed everything we could (with a couple of exceptions) but we also did a lot of trading, and between that and some creative math we were able to pull off wine, beer, champagne, and dinner for 150 people, slightly under budget.
