The offbeat bride: Emi, Barbershop Receptionist/Manager (and OBT member)

Her offbeat partner: Trevor, Call Center Supervisor

Location & date of wedding: Aunt Karla's Backyard Garden, Portland, OR — 07/18/2009

What made our wedding offbeat: We really didn't hire anyone for anything. We had a few rentals delivered (tables, chairs, our Honeybucket) from outside vendors, but we did all the food & drinks, cupcakes, table settings and flowers, decor, etc., ourselves (that is, with TONS of help from family and friends).

The Offbeat Bride: Kendra Bentle, Branding and Design Writer and OBTer SheHim

Her Offbeat Partner: Blake Rainey, Musician

Location & date of wedding: The EARL, music venue and bar, Atlanta, GA — 1/11/09

What made our wedding offbeat: Blake and I met on-stage at an Atlanta music venue called The EARL during an event aptly named "The Happenstance." It's kind of like the 48-hour film festival, but for musicians. Blake pulled my name out of a hat to play with him, we wrote and performed music together that night, and have been inseparable ever since.

What made our wedding offbeat: We were already legally married and decided to get "weddinged" almost exactly on our one year anniversary.

Not bad to have already gotten through the first year of marriage on your wedding day…makes for a lot less nervousness.

The offbeat bride: George, Retail Owner

Her offbeat partner: Sebastian, Art Entrepreneur

Location & date of wedding: back courtyard of The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel on August 2nd, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: What we wanted most for our wedding was for it to be us. We are fairly relaxed people, but with a very definite sense of our own style; and we wanted that reflected in the event. The most important thing for us was the public affirmation of our commitment to each other, and a party with those we care about most.

From tattooed rockabillies to tight-panted hipsters to earth-lovin' hippies and every idiosyncratic style (lifestyle?) in between. One aspect of the Offbeat Bride army, if you will, that we often don't associate with being particularly offbeat and is definitely under-represented on OffbeatBride.com are military brides. Yeah, I said it… military brides can be offbeat too!

On the Offbeat Bride social network, Offbeat Bride Tribe, there is a group devoted entirely to brides and their partners who have served or are serving in the armed forces, police force or firefighting arena. There's a little sumpin' sumpin' about a man or woman in uniform!
