OBT member Alex has finally revealed to us the amazing Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy programs that her husband created. Thus renewing my faith in wedding programs in general. And with that, Alex's husband may have the satisfaction with the knowledge of a job well done.

IMG_4116 They were generous enough to supply pens with each program to be used with the wordsearch contained within.

Alex's clever husband says that all he did was choose a template on Word, delete everything, choose colours that matched their wedding colours, and let his imagination run wild! All Alex did was proofread, design the wordsearch and then spend five harrowing hours printing them all out! :)

Plus they double as a great way to explain your offbeat wedding…

The Offbeat Groom: Lon, FileMaker Developer

His Offbeat Partner: Valarie Torres

Location & date of wedding: Great American Music Hall, San Francisco — October 12th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: She's punk rock; I'm mope rock; we're both geeks. Our wedding party and guests were drawn from equal parts giant Mexican family and an extended bicycle messenger family.

The offbeat bride: Anli, data analyst

Her offbeat partner: Laura, public servant

Location & date of wedding: The Old Stone House, NSW Australia — 5 September 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: We wanted a ceremony that reflected our geeky, romantic, pink aesthetic, while at the same time being profound and meaningful. Our ceremony was themed around the video game Portal and the anime series Revolutionary Girl Utena.

We incorporated lots of geeky details, from the table names (Revolution, Sierra, Katara and GLaDOS) to the choice of music. We also kept several traditional elements such as bouquets, dresses and bridesmaids. However, we both walked down the aisle unaccompanied and skipped the garter/bouquet toss.

OBT member "Julia-Gulia" and her future husband are admitted gamer geeks. So when it came time to come up with their wedding favor they thought, "What better favor for our gamer geek wedding than personalized dice?" What better favor? None better favor. Gaze upon their geeky glory…

d152The Offbeat Bride: Regina, Pre-Press Technician (and OBT member "Parallax")

Her Offbeat Partner: Alyx, Psychology Student

Location & date of wedding: Beardslee Castle, Little Falls, NY — October 11, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Once we finally started to plan our wedding, the biggest question we asked ourselves was "What is our wedding about?"

My husbands main concern was making a binding commitment to one another (his big input: "So we're gonna need a priest…"). I was concerned with making a commitment to one another in front of our friends, family, and our gods and ancestors, followed by a fun party!

And just because I love Star Wars, good photography and things that are sparkly, I'll leave you with this picture taken by Melissa…

The Offbeat Bride: Miranda, copy editor

Her Offbeat Partner: Jake, student/IT

Location & date of wedding: San Francisco City Hall — Thursday(!), June 4, 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: As a kid, I never really dreamed of "My Big White Wedding." I knew I wanted to marry Jake and I knew my mom would kill me if I didn't have a big party and ceremony, too. So I threw myself into it and tried to make it ours — no white dress, no hairspray, pizza for dinner, "Star Trek" processional, photos at ruins, pawn shop rings, a bouquet made of flowers guests bought at a liquor store or on the street on the way there.
