13 wedding shoe clips to turn your cheap Payless shoes into fancy-fance footwear

For those of us working with tight budgets (or just those of us who aren’t into blowing our wedding budgets on our footwear), shoe clips can be the perfect solution. You know that super basic pair of flats you got at PayLess? Or those pleather heels you got last year at Target? Slap some fancy shoe clips on that babies and behold: your fancy-fance dream wedding shoes. For this post, I curated a collection of my favorite wedding shoe clips from Etsy, but of course you can find these things all over the place including, including Amazon.

Of course, because I’m me… I arranged these in rainbow order, including a pair of rainbow shoe clips at the end YAY!

Wedding moccasins and 5 other shoes for brides who don’t give a shit about shoes

I asked some Offbeat Bride readers on Facebook what I should focus my next shoe post on, and one of them said: “What about a post for brides who don’t give a shit about shoes? I was one of those brides. I ended up with a pair of $19.99 moccasins. They were functional, comfortable, cheap, and got the job (aka not being barefoot) done.”

You know what? This is an excellent idea.

Who says mary jane shoes can’t be for weddings?

Wedding shoes are a weird thing… there’s a lot of focus on SUPER FANCY! SO MUCH SPARKLES! MASSIVE HEELS! I try to combat some of that on Offbeat Bride with regular shoe posts focused on flats, wedges, and weirdness. If you’ve read the Offbeat Bride book, you may be familiar with my concept of “a smidge above,” which means that while yes: lots of us want our wedding days to feel a little special and a little fancy, what “fancy” means for each of us is going to be different. For those of us on the super casual end of the spectrum, “a smidge above” daily wear may not be glittering gold platform heels with bows… it may be mary janes.

Flats that are intense on styling, but gentle on your feet [Updated for 2022!]

It’s like clockwork: I’ll do a post about heels, and the first comment will be “…but I can’t wear these!” I know, y’all. Believe me, I know. I spent several years in the ’90s selling Birkenstocks for a living, so I SUPER DUPER KNOW. That’s why today I’m going to focus on flats. Sweet, delicious, comfortable flats that are intensely awesome, but won’t hurt your delicate feetsies. And if these 48 pairs aren’t enough? Browse our massive flats archive.

Orange is the new wedding shoe

Sure, if you’re having a Halloween wedding, it’s extra seasonally appropriate to share orange wedding shoes. But let’s be clear on this: orange wedding shoes are for any day, and every day. Our own Megan wore orange shoes at her beach wedding, so I know for a fact that they look awesome on everyone from autumnal brides looking to match the leaves, to destination brides looking to match the sunset. I’ve included lots of flats here, as well. Let’s dive in…

Put a bow on it: adorable wedding shoes with big ol’ bows [UPDATED for 2022!]

True story: when I was a sophomore in high school, I covered a pair of PayLess pumps in emerald green glitter-glue, and then stapled huge enormous white-wired ribbons on to the fronts. These shoes were WAY over the top for Bainbridge High School’s prom in 1992, but I was super into the look, and still am. So today, I’mma wrastle up some wedding shoes with bows.
