So you’re in LA and you want to get married, like, TODAY. Enter Los Angeles wedding officiant Elizabeth Oakes and marriagetogo.com.

Elizabeth is a non-denominational minister and notary public authorized to issue marriage licenses in Los Angeles. She’s conducted weddings in four-seater planes, bait shops, limos, hip-hop clothing stores, In ‘N’ Out Burger, trailer parks, celebrity homes, hospital rooms, The Museum of Jurassic Technology, and about a bazillionty other places.

With the recent shifts in California wedding laws, Elizabeth has been doing a ton of same-sex weddings lately, as you can see from this gorgeous shot of her with a couple on the beach. One of marriagetogo.com’s weddings was recently featured in the New York Times.

Elizabeth can do civil ceremonies, elopements, interfaith ceremonies, non-religious ceremonies, and just about anything else. And for those of you looking for a green eco-wedding, Elizabeth has got you covered:

I am in the midst of developing Zero-Emissions Bike Wedding services, for which I will bike to any local ceremony site on a two-wheeler, lead a half-mile post-ceremony bridal bike parade along the route of the couple’s choice, and make a donation to TreePeople, our local urban-greening program.

For more information about Elizabeth and to get married, uh, TODAY!, head on over to marriagetogo.com.

c-r-fullThe offbeat bride: Rosemary, graduate student

Her offbeat partner: Christopher, graduate student

Location & date of wedding: June 21, 2008 in a friend’s wild back yard and forest, near Montreal, QC

What made our wedding offbeat: We made up our own ceremony to be exactly what we wanted it to be, which meant throwing out most traditional elements. Being part of a Pagan community, this wasn’t so surprising to our friends, but what may have surprised them was that we threw out most of the Pagan handfasting traditions as well, since they didn’t really speak to us either.

The offbeat bride: Kristen / Retail Manager, but trying to get out

Her offbeat groom: Todd / Production Assistant

Location & date of wedding: Miami University Campus, Oxford, OH. Oct. 13, 2007

What made our wedding offbeat: It started with Todd proposing without a ring, saying we should pick one out/design it together. And that began the trend for the whole wedding, a DIY eco-friendly nuptials that really told all our guests who we are.

Zombie KittenThere are hundreds of cutie-cute offbeat brides over on the Offbeat Bride Tribe, but Zombie Kitten here caught my eye because, well, she’s got excellent taste in user icons. :)
Just a quick reminder, too: if you haven’t checked out the Offbeat Bride Tribe, you really should. There are specific bride groups for offbeat subgenres like Brides who like brides, Anti-white dress brides and Ecobrides.

Bride profiles: Sharon’s DIY SF wedding

November 14th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

The offbeat bride: Sharon, Admissions Officer/Blogger

My offbeat groom: Tim, Software Engineer

Location & date of wedding: Ceremony at Crissy Field and Reception a short walk away at the San Francisco Film Centre. August 2007.

What made our wedding offbeat: For an outsider it may have seemed somewhat traditional, but for us it was about doing the traditions our own way. We wrote our own ceremony which included a reading from “The Little Prince” and a tree planting. It was officiated by Tim’s brother who was deputized for the day. All the ceremony music was Sufjan Stevens. There were a ton of DIY elements — my mother-in-law hand-wove shawls for the bridal party, we ordered the flowers directly from an organic farm and made our own bouquets, nearly all of the reception decoration was from recycled/reused materials.

Wedding porn: Fern wedding bouquet

June 28th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

02I love this bride’s bouquet — she had a forest wedding, and I think it’s awesome that she chose to make a bouquet from the natural flora in the area. It really binds the event to the location, is super low-impact and eco-friendly (no pesticides!), budget-conscious, and in this case made for a gorgeous casual bouquet full of fern fronds and wildflowers.

(Thanks to Organic Photo for the photo!)
