Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

Okay, so I can't even tell you how amazing I think these are. I actually had to go outside and take a freaking walk to calm down after I read the following wedding update posted by OBT member Julia

Our invitations were kept secret from EVERYONE. My parents, sister, friends, everyone. So it was a complete surprise when they showed up in mailboxes. We are both graphic designers but wanted to truly splurge on our invitations. We knew a lot of our invite list wouldn’t be able to make it. With the combination of a destination wedding, our family scattered across the country and the economy, we wanted to give all of our invitees something special even if they can’t be there to share the day with us. This was our biggest expense vs. what we could have spent but I feel like it's worth it.

Here's what the insides looked like. They were 3D images, so much cooler than what you can see here. The text was in captions along the top of the reel:

The handmade invitations and RSVP cards from OBT member Hurricane Me (aka. Kate) just blew me away. Here are the pictures and her explanation taken from her wedding planning update.

I sat around stressing out over what kind of image I wanted … I knew I wanted to do it myself but had no idea where to begin stylistically. But I finally buckled down and did the block print of the hands, and as soon as I lay the ink on I knew I had my design. I couldn't decide on a color. So I didn't.

I just put cardstock through the photocopy machine at Kinkos to make the text and the RSVP inserts, then cut the smaller block print stamps of bicycles and letters, and started stamping.

The offbeat bride: Jenn, Youth Worker

Her offbeat partner: Brandon, Musician

Location & date of wedding: Illuminated Sculpture Gallery in New Orleans, LA on January 10th, 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: We were already legally married and decided to get "weddinged" almost exactly on our one year anniversary.

Not bad to have already gotten through the first year of marriage on your wedding day…makes for a lot less nervousness.

The offbeat bride: Christine, Web Designer

Her offbeat partner: Matthew, Musician

Location & date of wedding: Golf course tent in Omaha, NE on September 13th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We set out to have a good time and didn't take the day too seriously. We figured if our guests saw that we were genuinely having fun then they would too.

I went wild with glee when it came to planning artsy stuff like the decorations, invitations and cake, but neither one of us wanted anything to do with the business end of the wedding. So, we just ignored it and refused to plan any further.

Welcome to another installment of OMGOBT, where I feature some of the best that the OBT has to offer. This time: OBT member Jen Han shows us her diy projects for her skull theme, which manages to be a little punk rock and yet totally adorable at the same time. So, take it away, Jen…

My fiance is OBSESSED with Duke Basketball… so the wedding colors are Duke blue. i reeeally love skulls so we are incorporating skulls into the stationary, place cards and cake. i'm pretty proud of the subtle incorporation of skulls in the invitations:
