disability

At Offbeat Wed, we know that disabilities aren’t always visible, and that while some of us might be getting married in a wheelchair or walking down the aisle with a cane, others of us are dealing with chronic conditions like fibromyalgia, or other invisible challenges like panic disorders, being neurodivergent, or having social anxiety conditions. It’s a PowerHockey love story with vintage details & some Nightmare Before Christmas

Selena and Josh first met during a PowerHockey tournament in Detroit. For those unfamiliar with the sport, PowerHockey is similar to floor hockey, but all the players play in power wheelchairs. Josh was one of the players, and Selena was an assistant to one of his teammates. When Selena and Josh met, they immediately clicked and shared a lot of laughs. They eventually reconnected a while later, this time for good.

Old Hollywood glittery glam reigns at this retro theater wedding

We featured Dara and Michael’s vintage-styled drive-in theater engagement photos that were the bee’s knees. This week we are super lucky to be able to feature their whole wedding including even more vintage style, theater flair, and a couple of super cute and customized Funko figures as cake toppers. Every day being a battle with our bodies and what could come, we knew that we wanted to be in each other’s lives for good, so why not just make it official?

Are there accessible wedding invitations for sight-impaired guests?

While there are lots of invitations designers who either already produce accessible wedding invitations or can easily customize them for you, my first thought actually went to a video invitation! If you, or someone you know or can hire, can whip up a video invitation that speaks the information (at least the major highlights of date, time, location, etc.), that might be a secondary way to make sure your partner’s grandmother can watch and re-watch to get the info on to her calendar. But I digress. Here are a few vendors who can craft up beautiful, large print, and accessible invites for your inclusive wedding…

A whimsical sitcom-themed wedding with a private vow reading

“Some of the moments that really stand out as the best parts of our day didn't actually involve our ceremony or our reception. We knew the day was going to be hectic and exhausting, and I have multiple chronic illnesses which can make it difficult for me to be on my feet for very long, so we wanted to plan the day in a way that involved us having some downtime to relax and just be alone together.” Let’s enjoy this gorgeous and hilarious wedding in Newfoundland…
