What made our wedding offbeat: When I found out that I'd need major surgery for a serious health condition, my husband and I scrapped our original plan to get engaged and then wait a year before getting married. Instead, we got married on the Thursday of that same week at our local magisterial courthouse. Criminals were
being led out as we walked in.

Location & date of wedding: Old Montreal, QC, Canada — October 10th 2009 (Canadian Thanksgiving)

What made our wedding offbeat: At first, we were planning a wedding with guests, but we quickly realized that we couldn't agree on anything. Derik wanted something traditional and to invite everyone he had ever talked to, while I wanted a 40-50 guest potluck in a community center.

We celebrating Friday the 13th with a wedding that is both a Friday the 13th wedding AND our first Kansas wedding!

Location & date of wedding: Courthouse / Park Building Reception, Kansas — Friday the 13th, February 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: We got married on a Friday the 13th to commemorate our first date, which was also on Friday the 13th. Luckily our families know we're a little off, so the black Chinese cheongsam dress and matching jacket (Ebay) and the skeleton cake topper didn't even cause them to bat an eyelash.

Location & date of wedding: Ceremony at the city counsel and reception in a Pub in Vlaardingen and party at a campingfarm in Geldrop, Netherlands — 22th of August 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: We always wanted a wedding party at a camping farm, where every guest could stay overnight in big bedrooms and tents. So that was the first thing we've planned. The ceremony was normal, except for the part where Tycho got the black rings out of his pocket.
