Happy almost-Halloween! Today marks our final post in our month-long celebration of Halloween weddings.

3091464801_39aa8f0ed3_mThe Offbeat Bride: Steff, Copywriter and Braille Transcriber

Her Offbeat Partner: James, Geo-technician, Armourer and heavy metal drummer

Location & date of wedding: Spookers, Kingseat Hospital Grounds, Kingseat, New Zealand — 1 November 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: James and I met on an archaeological excavation five years ago, when I happened to look over my shoulder and notice a really cute grey amorphous blob (I'm legally blind) wearing an identical Iron Maiden shirt to mine. It took two years swapping our favourite metal albums and me running away from him before we eventually started dating. When we decided to get married, everyone knew it wouldn't be the usual sort of white roses affair. :)

d152The Offbeat Bride: Regina, Pre-Press Technician (and OBT member "Parallax")

Her Offbeat Partner: Alyx, Psychology Student

Location & date of wedding: Beardslee Castle, Little Falls, NY — October 11, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Once we finally started to plan our wedding, the biggest question we asked ourselves was "What is our wedding about?"

My husbands main concern was making a binding commitment to one another (his big input: "So we're gonna need a priest…"). I was concerned with making a commitment to one another in front of our friends, family, and our gods and ancestors, followed by a fun party!

The offbeat bride: Stefanie, Accountant/Opera Singer

Her offbeat partner: Aaron, Web Designer

Location & date of wedding: First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco in San Fransisco, CA on December 13th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: The wedding was very detailed, complete with Renaissance music, vows rolled in parchment scrolls, a feather quill pen to sign the guest book, and custom head wreaths, ending in a Medieval feast.

A tiny owl as your ring bearer, of course…

…Just kidding. The bride in this photo, Denise, is a Scottish falconer and that owl is much, MUCH more than an accessory — its name is Puck. Denise and her husband Martin recently got married at the Dalhousie Castle near Edinburgh. Denise and Martin planned their winter wedding in just five months, and if you want to get an eye-full of how beautifully it turned out, head on over to Flickr!

The offbeat bride: Becca, Medical Biophysics grad student (I study braaiiinnsss!)

Her offbeat partner: Luc, Super Hot French-Canadian Medical Biophysics grad student (microfluidic devices)

Location & date of wedding: On a rock, in a field of flowers, 11,500 ft above sea level, surrounded by 14,000' of mountains, at Yankee Boy Basin, near the town of Ouray Colorado on July 25th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Well the most obvious thing that made our wedding offbeat is that it was on top of a mountain, an Alpine basin actually, 11,500ft in elevation. It was an outdoor Catholic wedding, which 'technically' you can't do….unless the priest is a family friend and allows you to do the necessary bits in the church the night before.
