Her Offbeat Partner: Andy, Math Grad Student

Location & date of wedding: St Joseph's Co-Cathedral and Sunset Ballroom, Burlington, VT — 01/03/09

What made our wedding offbeat: To save money, we got married during the "off-season," which was sweet because we wanted to show our family and friends a good old time in our current hometown in Vermont and… what's more picturesque than Vermont in winter?

The Offbeat Bride: Laura, scientist (and OBT member "2girls4PDX")

Her Offbeat Partner: Gosia, attorney

Location & date of wedding: Shakespeare Garden, Portland International Rose Test Garden, Portland, Oregon — 06.20.09

What made our wedding offbeat: Well, first we’re girlie-dress & makeup-loving gay ladies. We couldn’t agree who had to change her last name, so we played a Name Change Soccer Game the afternoon before the wedding with our guests, and the winner’s team got to pick our new last name. In a total upset, Laura (who is completely unathletic) and her team won, and she scored the winning goal. It served as a great icebreaker for everyone to get to know one another.

The Offbeat Bride:
Tiffany, Librarian
(and OBT member "TippyLooHoo")

Her Offbeat Partner:
Brandon, Electrician

Location & date of wedding:
Friday the 13th, March 2009
Kilworth Memorial Chapel in Tacoma, WA & BPIC in Browns Point, WA.

What made our wedding offbeat: One of the biggest things that made our wedding offbeat was that it was on a Friday the 13th. And our colors reflected that: orange, black, purple, and white. We tried to do everything as cheap as possible. I bought most of our decorations, supplies, etc. on Ebay. We decorated everything ourselves. I made my very own nearly flowerless bouquet. We didn't use tradition music for the ceremony. Oh, and all of my bridesmaids were men.

I'm a longtime fan of wings in weddings, but usually it's brides and flower girls wearing wings. It was so refreshing to see Fairylove's wedding gallery, which features several shots of a Hawaiian groom rocking his own set of wedding wings:

The gallery also features what look like ring bearers and bridesmen wearing wings as well! For lots more wing pictures, head on over to Fairylove.

Members of the OBT already know Kat — she's one of my beloved moderators! Here's the full story on her awesome Solistice wedding

Kat & JamesThe offbeat bride: Kat, bookseller and OBT moderator

Her offbeat partner: James, writer

Location & date of wedding: My dad & step-mum's house, Lantzville, BC. June 21, 2008, Summer Solstice

What made our wedding offbeat: We managed to pull off a spectacular wedding with a very limited budget and a lot of help from our families and friends. Our visibly offbeat elements included my red dress and glittery Betsey Johnson shoes, the men's Converse shoes and skull ties, my bridesmen, our Buffy & Angel cake topper and our Handfasting.

The real offbeat aspect was that the wedding was 100% a reflection of the two of us. Having a handfasting was really important to me, and my non-Wiccan husband was totally into it. Our ceremony was officiated by two women and I was walked down the aisle by both my parents, elements that reflected our feminist values.
