A funky shoe wedding with a reception dress twist
After initially wanting a beach wedding in South Africa, Claire and Richard decided to share their joy with their families in the UK. And get this: the theme for the day was funky shoes and a surprise dress change!
An elegant gothic Iron Chef wedding
As someone who has never really adhered to the concept of “gender” and felt like I fall somewhere on the scale between tomboy and androgynous, I was surprised to find planning for my wedding made me feel unexpectedly girly. I fought it for a little while, but eventually decided to just go with it. Wearing makeup and doing my hair for one day didn’t make me a new person, it was just the side of me that decided to pop out for the occasion.
Fairy swords, a woodsy tablescape, and a Snowy Mountain stroll
Tribesmaid Laurasonja and her groom got married in the Snowy Mountains, making for some truly epic, wintry photos like this one. There were also some snazzy “fairy swords,” bad-ass bridesmaids, and some woodsy decor in the reader submissions this week.
Black sparkling shoes for your noire wedding
My shoe posts almost always focus on shoes that are either A) loud, like I wear ’em or B) pale, like the majority of brides wear ’em. I almost never include shoes that are brown or black because sometimes they can feel too “daily wear” and not WEDDING-Y enough. I guess if I’mma go non-traditional, I opt toward my own candy-colored tastes, instead of the shoes that are just like my heart: black and sparkling.
So today, in honor of all brides goth, noire, and just a little bit dark-hearted, I’m going to focus on the glittery black pumps and flats.
Mandy & Jamie’s skulls and roses cottage wedding
I love it when gothic style hits another, totally different element because the result is often a really awesome blend. Think skulls, deep red roses, a coffin card box all in a rustic cottage in a small town. This bride works in the floral industry, so she knew what she didn’t want to do. They both wanted intimate, budget-friendly, and an amazing time.
Tarryn & Dylan’s rock ‘n’ roll retro wedding
This couple had a 2013 wedding date, but after nine years of dating, they said to hell with waiting, let’s get hitched! Three months later they had booked a cool vintage-style restaurant and their nearest and dearest watched them get married in a most excellent retro rock ‘n’ roll fashion. They may not have remembered to get themselves fed on the day, but they did not forget to bring the style!
