Three cultures combine at this radiant sculpture park wedding in Seattle

Neena and Albert come from Chinese, Indian, and American backgrounds, so their multicultural wedding at Olympic Sculpture Park was full of color, sentimental touches, and a blend of traditions and decor that took our breath away. When we first talked about our wedding, the three words we really wanted to embody were fun, memorable, and fusion. Fun: we really wanted a party, one with the booze flowing freely, the dancing going late into the night, and no excuses to slow down! Memorable: we knew many of our friends would be going to lots of weddings this season, and it was important to us to be authentic to us and be remembered for being a little different. Fusion: I'm Indian, and my husband is Chinese, and we were both raised American; we really wanted a blend of all three cultures!

Choosing my wedding dress was a very long process, and I'm so glad with how it turned out! I desperately wanted a dress that represented me and my ties to both western and Indian culture. I knew I wanted a white dress with a Western silhouette, adorned with gold beading in Indian patterns. It was actually quite difficult to find a designer that understood both sides of that (many western designers were not familiar with Indian patterns, many Indian designers could only do saris or lehengas). I was very lucky that Anomalie started last year, and could make my dream dress for me!

Meanwhile, Albert's choice was a lot simpler. Our wedding was what we called "summer formal"; suits involved, but not in the usual dark blacks and grays. Albert went with a timeless blue suit and a super fun coral-colored bow tie from Ted Baker London. His choices added an awesome pop of color to all of our photos.

We were really trying to achieve a fusion of Indian and modern American with the decor. We chose to go with Indian patterns in a set of contemporary colors (raspberry, teal, gold), and our florist Anne really helped us try out various ideas to make our dreams into a reality! Our venue, Olympic Sculpture Park, also had the perfect sculpture during our wedding – a hanging glass piece in a rainbow of colors – and it really complemented our vision.
