When you think of punk rock you think of candy, right? No? Well, you will now after checking out Silvia and Timo's candy-coated punk rock wedding on day three of Candy Week! -Megan

The offbeat bride: Silvia, copywriter

Her offbeat partner: Timo, project manager

Location & date of wedding: Stirbey Palace, Buftea, Romania — 08.08.09

What made our wedding offbeat: We really wanted to be selfish and do things our way. Me and the hubby both wore sneakers (Converse and Vans respectively).

3950666230 e1783d2551 m alternative wedding ideas from Offbeat Wed (formerly Offbeat Bride)We had a VIP table where we placed lifesize cardboard cutouts of our favourite punk singers. The music was exclusively punk rock (seeing my grandfather dancing to Rancid was priceless). We had four live music acts. Timo's mom played two songs on the guitar at the ceremony, his brother's alternative rock band played, one of our friends wrote a song for us, and finally we made up our own band, Fur Coats For Children, and performed for the guests — me vocals and hubby bass.

Helium balloons we released into the air. And the bouquet I threw to the girls was made up of five smaller ones with each its own fortune (“you will marry an eskimo” or “you will marry a rock star”).

Our biggest challenge: Getting the people to accept the music was a bit hardcore, especially for the older guests. But we made up for it by having one hour of “oldies but goodies” to keep everyone happy.

My offbeat advice: Don't be afraid to fantasize. Even your craziest ideas can be made feasible some way — in a funny one if not in a grandiose one. We couldn't have Billie Joe Armstrong at our wedding, but we sure as hell had a lifesize cardboard cutout of him there!

Comments on Silvia & Timo’s punk rock candy wedding

  1. Oh man! The VIP table full of cardboard cutouts is pure genius!!! Love it!
Love the mismatched yellow bridesmaids too!! That looks like it was a totally fun wedding beginning to end!

  2. 🙂 thanks so very much for the comments, guys! you know how it is, everything’s always a matter of taste, but for us it was pretty damn close to perfect 🙂

  3. bird – the cake toppers are vinyl toys you can customize, they are called munny and they come blank, so you can paint them any way you want… you can find them on kidrobot.com, or just google munny to find them close to where you are…

  4. hey jessica, the dress is from last year’s pronovias collection, the model is called hindu. glad you like it, it’s a lovely dress and very comfortable since it has little snaps to pull the train up after the ceremony, so you can dance at will…

  5. this wedding is just full of win! you look so naturally happy (as you should do!) in every one of your photos 😉 specially love the picture of the back of your Cons peeking out under your beautiful dress… just so happy!! 😀

  6. hazel, thank you, you just put a genuine grin on my face… but hey, if we can’t be happy on our wedding day, when can we?

  7. I love each and every part of this wedding. The VIP table, the bridesmaids, the candy of course… BUT THAT DRESS. Oh my god, it’s so beautiful and she looks so good in it.

  8. jax – actually i googled for the best quality pictures i could find, printed them out at work (the biggest size we can print is a3, so i just split the pic in 4 to get a real size), then i stuck the print on cardboard (mirror images on both sides, so she had a face from wherever you looked 🙂 ) and then i used a good cutter to shape it. diy all the way… if you need the picture, i think i still have it, and you can take it to a print store to make your life easier!

  9. The cardboard cut out of Billie Joe makes me insanely happy. You wedding looks like it was a blast! Congrats!

  10. I love the pictures, it seems you had the PERFECT mix of classic wedding and awesome punk! It was really beautiful! There is one picture where you both have your hands outstreched showing your rings, and he looks like he is sooo in love with you, just love that picture. I have to say though that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the VIP table. That should be the new mandatory item at every wedding!

  11. thanks so much for your lovely words, guys! eh, i wish we could have a wedding every year… good times!

  12. One of my fave weddings I’ve seen! I was thinking about exclusive rock music that’s mostly grunge so I’m glad someone pulled off a wedding with music some would consider “elder unfriendly”.
