We had some discussion on our Facebook page recently about this post for saving money on favors. One conclusion was this: why are folks not giving away free cake as their favor? It's already included in your budget (if you're going with cake, of course), and all you need is a favor box or waxed paper bag to slap around it. Done and done.

There are a myriad of shapes (including most shown above, and some that aren’t, like a coffin and a star) and all of them can AUTO-ADJUST to whatever dimensions you need through the self-calculating forms before you download. Every template is free, and if you’re a self employed bride with a need for novelty boxes for your business they’re also CCZero – meaning no credit or licensing is required to use any templates commercially. Obviously these templates are only nets; they don’t come with cute patterns so they have an extra DIY element to them that some of the ones above don’t, but if you’re not concerned about house or tape replicas then printing them on your favorite patterned paper is great too. 😉
I don’t know if this was discussed over on the Facebook page, but…cake used to be the ONLY favour at a wedding, until some time in the 80’s. When I was a kid in Ontario in the 70’s, it seemed like all of my cousins, neighbours etc got married, and you got a rectangular sliver of what was then traditional fruitcake, topped with a blob of almond icing. Often it was brought around to the tables during the reception in a big basket, by the bride & groom. This yummy delight had been pre-cut, wrapped in cellophane, then often had a metallic paper doily tied around the outside of it with ribbon & a little card that said something like ‘Thank you for sharing our special day, love Cheryl and Kevin”, on it. As a kid, you wanted to eat that bit of icing off & chuck the rest. I can’t even google a pic that shows this, but trust me, it was a ‘thing’. Thank god, wedding favours have come a long way. 🙂
