Bride profiles: Chelsie & Francesco’s steampunk wedding

September 5th, 2008 · Posted by Ariel

The CoupleThe offbeat bride: Chelsie, Wildlife Biologist

Her offbeat partner: Francesco, Aerospace Engineer

Location & date of wedding: Dancing Horse Ranch in Paso Robles, Ca.
08 August 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding theme was Steampunk (with a subtheme of Make New Friends!), our friend Kat officiated our wedding and we wrote our own ceremony. Also all of our “vendors” were friends! My make-up artist, the photographers, the DJ, the caterers — we all knew them and it seemed like there were no strangers at our wedding. It was wonderful to see everyone bringing their skills together to help out and contribute. Our wedding was much more about having fun than having rituals. I think that everyone there had a great time!

Offbeat advice: Non-matching bridesmaid dresses

September 4th, 2008 · Posted by Ariel
I am an Auckland, New Zealand OBB and am thinking of asking my three brideswomen to just pick a dress they like (maybe within a colour scheme…?) I don’t think they have to be matching because they are all uniquely beautiful and hopefully will feel more comfortable in something that they have picked out themselves. Have you got any pics of non-matching brideswomens’ dresses? -Sabrina

This is actually a very popular choice among offbeat brides — encouraging bridesmaids to wear something that generally coordinates, but isn’t matchy-matchy. I’ve heard stories of some bridesmaids being uncomfortable with the idea (I guess freedom can be overwhelming?), but giving your brides dress liberation can be a great way to make sure that your ladies enjoy maximum awesomeness on your wedding day.

As for pictures — damn right I’ve got some!

Wedding porn: Grocery store wedding photos

So, you met your future spouse when you worked together at a grocery store. What do your wedding photos look like? This, of course:

Lyndsay and Mike - Day After

More photos of Lindsay & Mike over here.

gem and melThe offbeat bride: Gem - art lecturer (and OBT member!)

Her offbeat partner: Mel - sex boutique proprietor

Location & date of wedding: Brighton Town Hall/beach/pier, Brighton UK. Wednesday the 6th of August 2008.

What made our wedding offbeat: Being a gay couple started events in a generally non-regular tradition and our family and friends realized quickly that it wasn’t going to stop there … we wanted a day that would fulfill our dressing up fantasies, even if that meant just being really comfortable. We didn’t want anyone in starchy suits if they weren’t going to feel at ease and our wedding was primarily about enjoyment.

Bride profiles: Maddie & Tim’s green Australian wedding

August 28th, 2008 · Posted by Ariel

The offbeat bride: Maddie - Graphic Designer

Her offbeat partner: Tim - Hydrogeologist

Location & date of wedding: Wedding: New Farm Park, Brisbane, Australia Reception: New Farm Lawn Bowls Club (across the road). 8th October 2005

What made our wedding offbeat: My husband and I dreamed up every aspect of the day so that when we remember back, it may not have been everyone’s idea of perfect but it was everything we could have ever wanted it to be. With very little cash and a whole lot of skilled friends pitching in their skills, this green coloured wedding and accompanying reception ‘on the green’ was a whole lot of fun!
