Should I schedule my wedding for the same day as a family member's wedding?

My fiancé and I have been together for over nine years. Each year we celebrate our anniversary on the day we made our relationship official, and on our 2016 anniversary — he proposed to me. After all the emotional dust settled from this, my first thought was: we'll get married on our anniversary in 2017!

Then I remembered, my half-brother's cousin already announced that they would do their wedding on that very date….

When a hand-airbrushed wedding dress at a colorful forest wedding slayed us forever…

When a bride customizes her dress like this, we've got to bow down and give it props. Artist Taylor and her partner Christopher rocked a most colorful forest wedding in California for which we fell hard. Taylor made all of the bouquets and boutonnieres, centerpieces, and of course, airbrushed her own flippin' wedding dress!

But the rest of it is just as creative and lovely. Her multi-hued hair in intricate braids, the rainbow flowers, the huge colored Jenga, her kick-ass wedding boots, and the cascading rainbow flower cake. It's all making our day and dazzling our eyes. You just have to see it for yourself…

Taking off the makeup to reveal this gorgeously simple couples' shoot

Andy and Justin won this gorgeously simple couples' shoot from their photographer and we couldn't dig it harder. Despite the fact that Andy (aka one of Cheltenham's premier drag artistes, Pandora La Roux) spends much of his time wearing a wig, a dress, and five inches of makeup, this shoot was simply about love and gorgeous scenery. Sometimes less is more when it comes to showing the lurve. Let's peek in the window at the romantic side of this pair…

Art meets science at a wonderfully weird New York gallery wedding

Lauren and Kyle are two wonderfully weird creatures from outer space who are super in love with each other (also Earth-bound visual artists and programmers whose art mixes light work, electronics and sound, while exploring human's interactions). Lauren's "Conversacube" (a device she created that offers random words to ease strangers into a conversation) were installed on every table at the reception, and Kyle's magnificent light installation lit the whole room all night.

It's all fun and games until an epic cueca starts (learn what it is!)

"The couple that plays together stays together" was the motto of Drea and Steve’s wedding. This was evident from start: the wedding invitation that was delivered in a cornhole bag! Drea is Chilean and took the first dance seriously. They performed a cueca, a traditional choreographed dance from Chile that mimics a couple’s courting with handkerchiefs.

An Italian New York wedding with a Central Park ceremony

Ilian and Laura are Italian and wanted to celebrate their wedding day in their favorite city in the world, New York City. Their Central Park ceremony was followed by a jaunt around the city to some of their favorite New York haunts. Don't miss their two stunning gowns (and chiffon cape!) and sweet Times Square stolen kisses.

Love transcends time and space: an Interstellar wedding reading for your ceremony

Kate and Winston crafted up a secular ceremony at their Texas meets New York weddings and included a reading we had to share. It's a little snippet from the movie Interstellar that sums up what a lot of us feel about love: that it's all-encompassing and transcends all we know.

If you're looking for a reading for your space-themed wedding or ceremony with a nod to sci-fi, this Interstellar wedding reading is out of this world.

Groomsgirl rules you HAVE to live by

These are the official rules that all groomsgirls, best women, and any ladies standing by their favorite dudes: there are NO rules. We recently spied Orange is the New Black's Lauren Lapkus at this super gorgeous vegan and pink wedding as one of the groom's attendants. She ROCKED a feminine suit that matched the groomsmen and even walked one of the bridemaids into the reception. Hell yes! After that, we knew we needed another reminder of how awesome groomsgirls and best women can be. (Oh, and spoiler: these tips totally work for bridesdudes, too!)

Here are the things you totally do not have to do as a groomsgirl:

"Just admit you are 'woman-babies' who can't get enough of this childish shit"

Remember how in January, I was all "Meh, offbeat weddings are pretty well accepted as mainstream at this point"? Remember that?

Well, this year has had some tricks up its sleeve for sure, and one of those tricks is that for a whole bunch of reasons, American culture is taking a hard swing right now. The blasé tolerant attitude of "eh, who even cares — you do you" that's been around the past eight years or so is shifting, and with that shift is coming an interesting wave of hatefulness toward the offbeat…

23 offbeat wedding themes that blew even our minds

One type of wedding that we feature heavily is a THEMED WEDDING. We love our theme-less weddings just as much, but sometimes a killer theme just feels so right. Is there a theme that hasn't been done? Surely. Are we game to see it? Absolutely. Here are a few offbeat wedding themes that blew our minds at the time (and maybe still do to this day!). Whether it was totally gorgeous, hilarious, outrageous, or just plain new to us, there have been some doozies.

The surprising ways I'm using Instagram to plan a wedding

A lot has changed since I planned a wedding eight years ago. Mostly… Instagram's existence. It's my favorite social media platform, for keeping up with friends and sharing my own life. But it's also been surprisingly helpful for wedding planning!

Have you checked out any wedding tags on Instagram? The #offbeatbride hashtag itself will send you down an endless rabbit hole of wedding inspiration. In a few seconds I went from scrolling, to clicking on a cool looking dress and discovering a new designer…

Why I'm keeping my wedding photos to myself (& off social media!)

Inviting people to your wedding who take blurry camera phone pictures of your first dance and your cake cutting and then put them on Facebook is the first lesson in wedding humility, letting your vanity go in cringe-inducing waves of overly indulgent boob shots and bad camera angles. The thing is, though, that I don't owe my social media community anything more than that. After all, I am just a normal, average person. Our most extraordinary day was a mere blip on my newsfeed map, but for me, it was so much more than that; it was the start to a lifelong journey of which I can only hope to be nothing but happiness.

So read, grab a tissue, and then get to enjoying the sweet Disney-fied engagement of these two ladies.

Video games and guitars: How to DIY a save the date video

My husband and I saved about $200-300 because we learned how to DIY a save the date video. We thought it would be a waste if people got a paper save the date because most of those go in the garbage (Remember to Recycle). Who wants a koozie with our wedding date on it, anyway (I don't even want one for myself)? Ultimately, we wanted a video! Here's how we did it…

Add these actually-exciting wedding gifts under $25 to your wedding registry

Registering for wedding gifts can be tricky. They take the right balance of "expensive shit we can't afford to get for ourselves," and less expensive things that aren't that exciting.
