Vintage lovebirds and hanky invites at Liz & Kim's wedding

This is one DIY wedding where the decor truly is king. You'll adore the vintage bird details, hanky invites, newsletters for guests, handwritten programs and kids activity books, and a same sex wedding FAQ to answer any lingering questions for guests. 42 wedding sandals just a hint above barefoot (for honeymoons, too!)

We love Offbeat Brides who go barefoot, and in fact we have a whole archive dedicated to barefoot brides… but there are some brides who don't want to go completely barefoot, but want just a strappy hint of a shoe. This shoe post is for you, my strapping friends. I've got pairs of wedding sandals (or hell: honeymoon sandals!) that are just a hint above barefoot, but still protect your soles. Bonus: almost all of these are flats! I can hear your balls sighing in relief from here…

It's a Warrior Dash wedding for this mud-covered bride and groom

Running through muddy obstacle courses is apparently something that Sylvia and Joe enjoy doing with their friends. So presumably it wasn't a tough sell to have them all participate in their Warrior Dash wedding one spring day in Georgia. This 5K obstacle course had Sylvia and Joe jumping through tires, climbing over walls, sliding under barbed wire, and jumping over fire! I mean, HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A FAVORITE PHOTO? You can't. Give up.

A Pagan Pokemon party with Annette & Matt

Pokemon trainers unite for this wedding! Gotta catch all the awesome details: the Pokeball ring holder, the Pokemon games, the board games, the dance video games, and the most adorable geeky couple you'll see today. Just wait until you see how the Pagan ceremony officiant asked if there were any objections…

Barbara & Ned's vintage travel wedding will give you wanderlust

This pair knew that they wanted to have a wedding that was a reflection of their love for travel. The groom wanted a wedding on the water, and the bride wanted a barn wedding, so they chose a renovated warehouse on the Hudson River to combine both of the elements. What transpired is pure vintage travel bliss.

Is it disrespectful to sneak alcohol into a dry wedding?

"Recently I went to a cousin's wedding. She used to party but has recently stopped drinking, and her wedding was dry — punch and water were the only beverages served. I respect her decision to throw the reception she wanted, however, my brother and I wanted to drink something with a little burn. Is it terrible to leave a wedding in a park, go to the liquor store nearby, and sneak back in with our well-hidden brown bag?"

Sweet wedding vows that include mating penguins and Broad City

Ten years ago I was sitting in a darkened movie theatre watching the documentary “March of the Penguins” and struggling not to cry. It was the scene where the emperor penguins had traveled over 100 kilometers to their ancestral breeding ground and had begun to pair off as mates, crossing their beaks over each other to show their love. It was beautiful and moving, but I also remember thinking: “Where’s my penguin?”

In the case of a sexless marriage…

We're barely in our thirties, but H and I are currently in a “sexless marriage” (defined as a couple who have sex “10 times a year or less”). I am writing this because I want other partners in similar situations to know that they aren't alone…

10 super-obvious things I forgot to add to my wedding budget

When I started planning my wedding, I scoured the web for as many budget breakdowns as I could find. I made spreadsheets and included everything I could think of, in super-granular detail. I thought I had thought of everything I could possibly think of. I was wrong! Here are some things I discovered I had not budgeted for, despite looking at dozens of online sample budgets…

A party that could save your wedding? In defense of "stag and doe" parties

For those not in the know, these parties are a fundraiser for engaged couples. The idea is that attendees pay an admission (usually around $10-$15), and play games that are designed to make some money for the couple getting married (think dollar dances, coin toss games, raffles, etc). Don't get me wrong, I get how some people may be weirded out by this idea. But I think about it this way…
