5 tips for working with a wedding photographer who doesn’t "get" you

As a photographer I can speak from experience that there are going to be clients who we click with like old friends, and clients that take us awhile to get to know. However, that's definitely not an excuse for making it obvious that some clients have become your BFFs and others still remain strangers. These are a few tips to help you work with a photographer who doesn't get you…

A Vegas destination elopement on a rooftop at twilight

Kendra and Spencer had a rooftop wedding at twilight in Downtown Vegas with neon light backdrop. So glamorous, so shiny! This Vegas destination elopement featured the bride's black and white gown, the groom's chic black suit, florals from Flora Pop (and their tear drop trailer!), and the Vegas sunset. Let's peek at how it all went down, including their first shared donut as a married couple.

5 ways you never thought to rock marquis diamonds in your engagement ring

Ah, the marquise diamond. It's awesome, it's unique, and it's often hard to think of creative ways to set it. True story: my best friend inherited her grandmother's marquise diamond engagement ring when she got engaged, it was pretty but the setting wasn't offbeat enough for her taste. Oh how she wishes our sponsor Joseph Jewelry had been around with their fantastical marquise ring settings.

I bet you'll see at least three ways you've never thought to rock a marquise diamond…

A sexy and dark Valentine's Day look with inspiration from The Crow

This dark Valentine's Day shoot is glamorously cool with moody reds, greys, and rich purples as the color palette and The Crow as aesthetic inspiration. We love us some pastels, but sometimes you just want to savor the dark side. Add in a '20s-inspired dress, a few red hearts, a bunch of lush florals, and a wicked helipad venue,
Ventanas in Atlanta, and you've got our new favorite dark Valentine's Day look.

25 of our favorite mismatched bridesmaids

One thing we know: matching wedding party fashion is SO not required anymore. I'd say about half of the weddings we receive as submissions stray from the matchy-matchy tradition in favor of mismatched wedding parties. They range from mildly varied fashion to wildly different looks, and we love them all. Let's travel down memory lane to revisit some of our very favorite mismatched wedding parties

This sleek braided mohawk is giving us happy chills

Kat and Michael had a kick-ass wedding in Memphis with a "minimal geek" theme. Our favorite part that we could stop swooning over was the bride's gorgeously sleek, bright pinky red mohawk braid hairstyle. We just had to share her fabulous look to which we are now all aspiring. So simple, so colorful, so gorgeous! Now let's bask in Kat's amazing hair look.

You HAVE to see the giant Stargate, light-up dress, and Minecraft cake at this video game-themed wedding

A light-up dress. A blinking tie clip. Centerpieces filled with D20 dice. Chicken and waffles on the menu. Kaylee’s parasol. A Minecraft cake so epic the guests didn’t realize it was cake. Mario and Luigi as ringbearers. Guests in costumes. A grand entrance through a giant Stargate. This geeky video game-themed wedding is an explosion of nerdy goodness.

Two ladies finally celebrate 20 years with a garden wedding in Utah

The Red Butte Garden in Salt Lake City was the garden backdrop to this "big gay wedding." They included their three children into all aspects of the day with movie soundtracks, a kids' table, glow sticks, and more. Other highlights included their gourmet grilled cheese bar, ice sculptures (with the couple as Minions!), a LEGO cake for the kids, a cake inspired by album cover art, and loads of succulents.

7 tips to save yourself from Save the Date stress

I love informing people of things really early. So Save the Dates seemed like a no brainer for us — a piece of cake. Nope. Instead they were kind of an emotional roller coaster. News flash: Being a woman doesn't mean I know how to plan weddings

While I am a cisgender woman, I do not always adhere to the expectations of my gender (like many women). While I've come to terms with it in most parts of my life, there is something about the wedding process that shoves it in your face again and again and again…

While many vendors have been kind with my ignorance once I flat-out own it, there seems to be a constant, persistent expectation that I should have more of this wedding thing figured out, or that my double-X chromosome has given me fluency in this secret wedding language.

Bats instead of butterflies in your stomach? Let's talk about pre-wedding anxiety attacks

My anxiety attacks me where it will hurt the most — it makes me question my relationship, and now it added crushing doubt about whether I truly wanted to marry the man lying next to me. The very existence of those thoughts crumbled whatever defense I had left, because in that state of mind it feels like every thought that enters my head must, by its very existence, be true, no matter how much I love and want to be with him. Great state of mind for a newly engaged person.

It's not just about the bride: The Wedding Industry puts pressure on bridesmaids too!

Somehow the lines of friendship and being a bridesmaid have been blurred by the wedding industry. "Requiring" bridesmaids to throw over-the-top bachelorette parties, or instructing brides that all of their bridesmaids must have matching monogramed robes as gifts, are ways to get people to open their checkbooks just a little more. Wedding websites, magazines and Pinterest are filled with lists and suggestions that can make one feel like, if they aren't throwing a lavish bridal shower, they aren't doing it right.

J. Von Stratton wedding dresses, inspired by glamorous drag queens and burlesque performers

For those who've been following my adventures on the Lovesick Expo tour this winter, you've probably been like "WTF is up with all those sequined dresses?!" Well, I will tell you what's up with them: J. Von Stratton is up with them, that's what.
