"Who's the 'groom' in your lesbian wedding?" Gender stereotypes and assumptions with gay weddings

"So, who's the guy in your relationship?" This question (or versions of it) is one of the more common questions posed to lesbian couples and the most frustrating. The reverse is true of male couples. While most people have posed this question with absolutely no malice or agenda, people in same-sex relationships (including myself) can get kind of huffy about it. That is not always helpful, so lets talk about that question.

Our 30 best wedding ideas to steal

Is it rare to be encouraged to steal something? We happen to encourage you all to steal our Offbeat Bride ideas rather a lot. In fact, one of our biggest archives is full of wedding ideas that we'd really like you to steal, pretty please. And I couldn't get all of my favorites on this list (though I made sure to include my favorite tip for a post-ceremony activity). What I'm saying is, you should go have a wander through that once you're done with these 30 of my favorites.

The bride wore pink, the groom wore blue… wedding hair!

After 10 years together, Brittney and Kevin said their vows outside on a sunny day last June in Michigan — and obviously had an absolute blast doing it. First, let's talk about how awesome these two look, please. Kevin sported an enviable shade of teal blue hair (matching his GLASSES in later pics!), and Brittney wows me with that electric pink… and a tiny bit of red and purple perhaps in there? Sigh. I love colored hair so hard. I also really love the shot we get of Brittney's fab underarm tattoos. What better moment to capture them than when she's being helped into her dress? Take note, all y'all with underarm tats.

Surprise! This engagement party is actually our wedding

Carlene and Todd got surprise-married at their engagement party in New Orleans last September, and they both looked STUNNING. Carlene began the evening in a fabulous glittery gold cocktail dress, and Todd wore an embellished black shirt and mariachi pants. They shared a pre-wedding, private dinner (which I think is a super fun, awesome, and practical addition to an evening wedding schedule) before heading over to their "engagement" party.

Check out the steamiest photos at this geothermal Iceland wedding

You had me at "sunrise wedding in Iceland." Chloe and Danny, from Bristol, England, said their vows in front of 13 wedding guests at Thingvellir National Park last November. I am loving the smiles on everyone's faces — even in the midst of what looks like some pretty serious wind and rain! Check out what happens to that umbrella, wow!

How to plan a disability-friendly wedding

You’re recently engaged? Congratulations! As you've probably discovered, images of brides and grooms with disabilities will not be easily found within the pages of popular magazines. Include EVERYONE in your processional!

Zay and Stacey, as you may recall, had a kickass outdoor wedding in Kansas last June. You should def go check out the entire wedding, but may I direct your attention to one particular bit of awesomeness? Zay and Stacey walked out to their ceremony site accompanied by EVERYONE at the wedding. Not a couple loved ones, not just a wedding party, no — every guest who was at their wedding got to be part of a dang parade to the ceremony!

How to tell your family that your wedding will be adults-only

I want to send an email to our family members letting them know that the wedding will be adults only. While I still can’t control the way anybody interprets the message, doing it this way at least allows us to control the words that they see/hear. This was really difficult to write, but here's what I've come up with…

Make your wedding the most tech-powered day ever

In San Francisco, where my husband and I met, almost every couple I know met online. (And actually, most of my good friends are people I met online from Twitter, blogger conferences, MeetUp, Couchsurfing… The list goes on.) So, when we got married, it only made sense to make our wedding the most tech-powered day ever. Let’s see the list shall we?

Gather 'round and let's enjoy some wedding wedges

Some of us get a little shaky on any sort of spiked heel, and wedges can be a great way to get an elevated heel without the ankle-twisting. In addition to being generally more walkable, wedges have the added benefit of being lawn-friendly for those of you having your weddings outdoors — no need to think about sinking up to your ankles in the grass.

This reduced shakiness AND improved grass-walkingness in mind, I'm going to round up some of my very favorite wedge shoes today. If I missed your favorites, leave a comment!

Trawling eBay's sparkly wedding shoes, so that you don't have to!

Oh, eBay. You're a treasure trove of great deals, but also a snakepit of weirdness. Part of the fun is that you never quiiiite know what you're going to get (and if it's coming from China, you never quiiiite know the ethics of how it was manufactured). Lots of the shoes on the site are one of a kind, available only in one size. Heck, by the time you read this, half these shoes could already be sold out! That said, there's no denying that when you hit it right… you can feel like you hit the sparkly-footed jackpot…
