A gold dress wedding with karaoke, and tacos all wrapped up in fairy lights

Jenny and Dean's wedding was a dream of fairy lights and over 200 candles. Jenny's gold dress lit up the room even more, and when paired with Dean's blue suit, was vaguely reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast! The reception featured guest karaoke with tons of dancing. Don't miss the coloring book guest book, taco bar at the reception, and loads of sweet cuppin' cakes.

We "dyed" when we saw this dip-dyed gown at a Minneapolis wedding

Michaela and Brian has a super colorful outdoor wedding in Minneapolis that give us chills. We're talking a colorful mismatched wedding party, a sweet first look, gorgeous outdoor ceremony space, scenery for days, and dance floor donut inner tube shenanigans. But our favorite part? You already know: it's the bride's handmade dip-dyed gown!

Get SLAIN by this black dragon scale dress

Winter is coming, my friends. Good thing we found this epic black dragon scale dress for any bride or bridesmaid who wants to be Mother of Dragons at the wedding. Subtle shiny dragon scales, a deep v-neck, a killer collar, and a puddle train — tell me this isn't divine. If you'll be forgoing a white dress, this black number can go goth, geeky, or just plain snazzy.

Use giant word balloons as a non-floral backdrop

When you're as adorable as Cat and Babs are, proclaiming your names to the heavens with giant word balloons seems perfectly acceptable and magical. If you too need a cool and cheaper-than-flowers backdrop/decor for your ceremony or reception, maybe huge ass balloon letters are your solution. They're cheap and awesome, and here are a few we like…

Why you can TOTALLY rock dark lipstick at your wedding

"I love dark, bold colors, but everyone keeps telling me that dark lips aren't a way to go." No dark lips at weddings?! I forgot that was even a thing way back when. Or is it still now? The only thing I have to say to that is fuck that noise. Dark lips are a thing in life, in photo shoots, and most definitely in weddings. Here's some primo dark wedding lipstick fodder to show to anyone who balks.

#ErinAndTimGetMeowied: a nerdy cat lady wedding

Our wedding had a loose theme of books, cats, and glitter. I really wanted my four cats to be at the wedding, but it wasn't possible, so I had to just let my cat lady status show in other ways.

I wore cat shoes and had a cat purse. We had our cats added to our cake topper, cat paw chocolate pops favors, and made sure to have cat ears at the photo booth. And, of course, used a cat lady wedding hashtag: #ErinAndTimGetMeowied.

Band mates become life mates at this musical wedding in Pennsylvania

Megan and Jeff were bandmates who became lifemates at their musical wedding. Megan wore her mother's dress, and they spoke personal and sacred vows. The unique museum space reception had vinyl slingin' DJs, which was perfectly appropriate since they fell in love in their own band, The Wild Hymns. They even wrote and played a song together instead of a first dance.

I went window shopping for rings and now regret it

I had a modest ring that I could afford bookmarked and budgeted. Then my fiancé convinced me that we HAD to go try on rings at a big box jewelry store. The men's band and wedding set we found and fell in love with costs $8,000! And my reasonable little ring looks shabby and drab by comparison. I thought I could walk away, and I can. I just did not anticipate the other cascade of feelings…

Weddings: the petri dish of family drama

All sorts of your interests and lifestyle choices probably seem a little odd to your family, but until you're planning a wedding, it's easy to just sort of ignore the differences. It's not until you have the combination of two families coming together, social anxiety, financial considerations, religious and cultural traditions that all these things are forced up into your face.

But of course aesthetic choices are just the tip of the iceberg — planning your wedding will bring all sorts of larger issues to the forefront like financial and wedding budgeting issues (how does your family approach conversations about money? What are the dynamics around gifts and loans? How do you talk about savings or wedding debt?) and social obligations (how does your family feel about dealing with abusive relatives? What about wedding invitation tit-for-tat?).

Serve up flavored popcorn favors to your guests (with recipes!)

Nidia and Jamal had tons of things going for their sweet Indiana wedding, but we couldn't stop drooling over their many flavors of popcorn favors (among a few favors!) they served to their guests. They had Chicago Mix (a Chicago staple of cheddar cheese and caramel mix), Asian BBQ, and Bombay Seasoning. I totally want all of those flavors right now.

You could translate this idea to the reception, cocktail hour, or even before the ceremony for mid-tears noshing.

Doing good while getting wed: wedding charity ideas to support your favorite causes

"In lieu of a gift registry, what are some of the options/ideas to ask people to give to charity? My partner and I met volunteering and are passionate about that particular organization and some others. We'd love to get others on board with helping support these places but are wondering how to do that." Boy do we have ideas for you! From donations to charitable registries, there are lots of ways to give back. Here's a roundup of charity wedding ideas…

How we decided which wedding traditions to uphold or scrap

Sorting through wedding traditions is a Sisyphean task. American wedding traditions are a conglomeration of hundreds of different cultures, not to mention the endless traditions from our individual backgrounds. Traditions, especially ones associated with major life events, connect us with our past, reinforce our cultural values, and hold our communities together. We want to make sure we include elements of both of our families' cultures, but how do we figure out what to include and what not to include? Here's how…

Lost ships: When election results strike fear in your wedding planning heart

It's safe to say this recent election has brought increased tension to the (often already-dysfunctional) dynamics in many families throughout the nation. As the weeks go on, many of you (especially on the not-winning side of the election results) may now find yourselves feeling lost at sea in turbulent political and emotional waters. And if your shipmates in this metaphor are the family members with whom you most butt heads, it can feel like there's mutiny afoot.

Oh, and all your seemingly-mutinous shipmates? They are invited to your upcoming wedding.

Video games and guitars: How to DIY a save the date video

My husband and I saved about $200-300 because we learned how to DIY a save the date video. We thought it would be a waste if people got a paper save the date because most of those go in the garbage (Remember to Recycle). Who wants a koozie with our wedding date on it, anyway (I don't even want one for myself)? Ultimately, we wanted a video! Here's how we did it…
