When Daleks and the Sith sabotaged a wedding: Lore & Martin's theatrical wedding

This wedding is blowing our collective minds with its extensive ceremony plotline about Daleks and the Sith plotting to ruin the wedding, groomsmen being impaled, the bride entering with a katana, a wild battle right at the altar… this is required reading, you guys. Just wait until you see the bride's handmade embroidered musical notes gown, too!

25 Star Wars weddings that were more powerful than you could possibly imagine

Thanks in no small part to our managing editor of awesomeness, Megan, we at Offbeat Bride have a long and glorious history of loving Star Wars weddings. We've seen (and crashed) many a wedding that would do Han and Leia proud. In homage of this time known as Star Wars Week (what, you don't wear a Chewie T-shirt on May 4th?), we've got 25 of our most favorite moments in Star Wars weddings for you to drool over.

This couple flew from South Africa to Omaha to get married (and go bowling!)

Charl and Staci met as engineers in South Africa (where he was raised) and flew to Omaha (where she was raised) last December to get married with family and friends. This looks like a super chilled-out wedding: an intimate ceremony at the Douglas County Courthouse, a dinner at a regional Italian restaurant called Spezia, and finally BOWLING. Does Staci's purple lace dress not look so hard core under glow lights?

Raise your lightsaber for Jennifer & Alex's Star Wars Extended Universe wedding

This wedding embraces all facets of the Star Wars universe: the movies, the comics, the lore, the music, and the ideal that everyone deserves to light up a lightsaber in your honor. It makes for pretty rad photos, too. Let's peek at the blend of Chinese and Jewish traditions, Imperial Knight groomsmen, braided-haired bridesmaids, and the truly epic fight scene performance at the reception.

Platform shoes to elevate your wedding day

Aww, platforms. I'm not sure which era they're hearkening to at this point — the '90s, which were hearkening to the '70s? I can't keep track, but I've missed them. Tons of chunky heels and sky-high weirdness in here — and as always, I have terrible and very loud taste. I tried to include a few white pretties… but there are also a pair of rainbow gladiators with gold gilded inverted heels so… prepare yourself!

Watch this Wisconsin couple get married THEN run 26.2 miles in a veil and vest

Veronica and Sage took their formal wedding portraits the evening before the big race. They followed up the photo shoot (and don't they look gorgeous?) with an intimate dinner with a few close loved ones. The next morning, they took their places at the start of Wisconsin's Whistle Stop Marathon where they said their vows in a more athletic set of wedding clothes. Forget carrying your partner over the threshold — Sage carried Veronica over the finish line!

Bringing the glamour to a North Carolina courthouse wedding

When your courthouse only does weddings at 11 a.m., your photographer might be ridiculously excited for a gray, overcast day to tone down that overhead sun. Alisha and Brian braved North Carolina's November chill to pose for some dreamily romantic photos after they said their vows at Durham Courthouse.

Show the kids at your wedding some extra love with heart-shaped PBJs

For their kid-friendly wedding, Joy said that a friend of theirs cut out heart-shaped PBJs, a little nod to make the kiddos feel extra welcome. I really love this idea for a couple reasons: one, it might help out a parent or two to have some kind of kid-friendly snack around before dinner is finally served. Just to avoid some "hangry." And two, I (obviously) love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I will totally sneak two or three of those in between drinks in the cocktail hour.

Emily & Jay's beer-themed Denver courthouse and brewery wedding

Some colored crinoline, flowers in beer bottles, and of course local brews abound at this beer-themed, Denver courthouse and brewery wedding. You'll love the bride's favorite moment (hint: it involved a first look!). Plus, you'll never guess what the guests did after the bride's Irish stepdancing performance!

Detroit brass bands and barbecue at Leah & Stephen's musical wedding

If you don't know how cool Detroit can actually be, this couple is going to school you. They brought in amazing local BBQ, pies, local farm-created salads, and of course, Detroit brass bands at both the ceremony AND the reception! You'll love the floral dresses, ribbon wands, piñatas, and the general splendor of a wedding full of music and dancing.

Dog ring bearers and a group walk down the aisle at Marcia & Zach's Maine beach wedding

This couple went through some serious troubles after their first secret ceremony, so the second needed to be a super fun time on the beach with friends, family, and a whole lot of doggie ring bearers who just didn't want to be left out. You'll want to check out this amazing venue, the sweet decor details, and the bride's awesome attitude toward directing the vendors.

A tropical backyard circus wedding from the aerialist minds of Gorgas & Jason

This ultra-DIYed, over-the-top fabulous wedding had marquee letters, midways games, and even handmade confetti. But the real stars of this show was the circus-inspired decor, the ADORABLE ceremony tears, cheers, and send-off, and the colored fairy-lit evening under the stars. Just be careful if you decide to show off some circus antics on the ground… you just may end up smooshed on it.

Kids, musicians, and a red dress makes Michelle & Sean's Winter wedding shine

With a community of Seattle musicians at your disposal and Sodo Pop as your venue, music was definitely a theme of this wedding. Add in the sweet times with a blended family and you've got some seriously cute moments. But when the bride had to give "her parents" to a friend while she walked up the aisle, things got funny.

Take "wedding in the round" to the next level: set up stations for your ceremony

In a typical wedding in the round, guests surround the couple for the duration of the ceremony. Sometimes guests are seated, sometimes they stand, sometimes they're arrayed in a circle around the couple, and we've even seen them arranged in a spiral! Adam and Lynn went a step further. A few steps actually. They walked around the circle themselves, stopping at different stations to complete their ceremony.

What no-one told me about how to avoid wedding day amnesia

I’ve read articles here about how to prevent this from happening. They tell you to do things like slow down, remember to breathe, and spend some quiet time with your new spouse. That is all definitely important. But there’s something else that’s even more important if you want to preserve your wedding-day memories for months and years to come, and it’s something I only accidentally stumbled upon.

How to find vintage-style bridal shoes in larger sizes

I wanted to walk down the aisle in a pair of shoes with history, with the romance of times past and full lives lived. It was not to be, and because of my size 10 feet and lack of shopping know-how, I ended up in compromise shoes bought at the last minute in desperation. Learn from my mistake, here’s how to find vintage-style shoes in larger sizes.

A ceremony script that harnesses the power and the beauty of nature

In particular, I wanted to highlight the importance of nature and beauty in my ceremony, and I couldn't find anything that addressed that. So, I decided to write those sections myself. If other couples are looking for something similar, I wanted to offer what I came up with as inspiration. Feel free to copy or use this as a basis for your own ceremony scripts…

Obvious and outdated: is my work here done?

The Offbeat Bride book was first released in December of 2006, with a second edition in January of 2010. The wedding it described happened in 2004, and I wrote the bulk of the book ten years ago. The fact that people still buy the book at all is only because of this here website, but somehow people do continue to buy it… and sometimes review it on Amazon.

A negative review came in a couple months ago that blew my mind in the best possible way.

WTF is "scrumming" and how can it help you actually ENJOY wedding planning

Our wedding planning process was smooth and enjoyable in large part due to my husband’s and my day jobs. He’s a software developer and I’ve been a “Scrum Master.” It sounds like a made-up title, but it’s actually a real thing. “Scrum” is a popular methodology used in software development and manufacturing, and my husband and I found it was perfect for wedding planning as well.

Construction is always more difficult than demolition!" Here's why creation is more interesting to me that reacting.

Why I don't really care about my wedding

Yes, there are aspects that my fiancé and I have agreed on with excitement; the entertainment, the hog roast, the tea corner (seriously, every wedding should have one). But those details have been easy to decide, they’ve made sense to us, and we probably would do something like that for any party.

My wedding is changing my relationship with religion

I'm Jewish, but I'm not very observant. My fiancé is agnostic and was raised Christian. Before we got engaged, I didn't think much about the specifics of a ceremony. When we got engaged, I was surprised by how important it became to me to have at least some elements of a Jewish ceremony incorporated into our wedding.
