Jessica and Tyler's Magic the Gathering wedding featured a love lock unity ceremony, that will secure your love not just forever, but 5ever. They clasped a lock around a metal tree. Love locks are popular in many cities, including Paris (so popular at the Pont des Arts, Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor, and the Pont de l'Archevêché bridges that it's becoming an architectural problem), but also a lovely idea that, when translated into a love lock unity ceremony, makes us swoon.
Jess and Tyler clasped their lock around a metal tree that they purchased from a home store. Here's how it all came about:
On one of our dates, we were grabbing dinner with a couple friends of ours at a great Mexican restaurant. I ordered a bottle of Coke, which was in a glass bottle from Mexico. I opened the bottle and read the label aloud, which stated, “No Retornables.”
Tyler thought I was quoting something from homestarrunner.com and asked which cartoon it was from, and I said, “No! It's Spanish. It means, “No Returns!” Since then, Tyler would include “no retornables” on cards and flowers that he would send me while he was out of state at school. It became an important phrase in our relationship and marriage. AKA: No backsies. No matter what.
In true, offbeat fashion, Tyler and I accidently locked our lovelock backwards during the ceremony. So the only way we can view what is engraved is by hanging the heart upside down around the tree trunk.
You could do your own version of a love lock with any structure you like: a mini fence to hang on your wall, a picture frame, or even to lock a wine ceremony box.
