We've been bugging OBT member Megan Kugler about how she made her GORGEOUS crystal bouquets, and voila! She finally gave us the scoop. The process is simple, but it'll take some time. So grab your favorite bromedy, a cup o'cocoa and get makin'! – Offbeat Shrie
Hello all! This post is going to teach you how to make your own crystal bouquets. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it, but it IS time consuming (so don't be like me and wait until the last couple of months before your wedding to make them!).
However, because we didn't want to spend the money on flowers, making crystal bouquets actually saved us a ton of money. We made seven bouquets (mine included), and thirteen bouts for just about $100, give or take, and that was with leftover crystals and wire.

The offbeat bride: Monica
Her offbeat partner: Paul
Location & date of wedding: Rochester United Methodist Church, Rochester, IL — 07/07/07
What made our wedding offbeat: The first thing everyone notices is my green and black dress. I designed it and my friend Rachel made it, as well as all the bridesmaids' dresses. Also coordinated to my dress was my cast I had on my left hand/arm that covered my left ring & pinky fingers! I fell and broke my hand exactly two weeks before the wedding! The designs on it were a coordinated effort from my dressmaker and a haunted house airbrush artist, with a matching "bracelet" made by yours truly.

The offbeat bride: Marie-Gael, disabled (and OBT member "gaelgirl")
Her offbeat partner: Michael, student English Literature Education
Location & date of wedding: Ash Cave, Hocking Hills, OH — 14 November 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: What wasn't offbeat???
- It was in the middle of the forest, in a cave, at sunrise.
- The actual wedding and reception (not counting clothes) was under $100.
- Most of the decorations and what we wore were vintage. So, I really didn't need to spend much because I used lots of inherited depression glass and jewelry.

The offbeat bride: Nicole, Biologist (and OBT member)
Her offbeat partner: Kyle, Biologist
Location & date of wedding: Africa Picnic Site and Atrium at the Toronto Zoo, in Toronto, Ontario — September 12, 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: My biggest goal was to reduce the environmental impact of our wedding, since that’s something we do in pretty much all aspects of our lives. To this end, we minimized décor (none at the ceremony site) or used upcycled/repurposed components (bouquets, centerpieces) and native wildflowers. Our apparel was either rented, consignment (my dress), already owned or wearable again (bridesmaid dresses, theoretically). We also designed our paper materials to reduce the amount of paper necessary.

The offbeat bride: Stevie- ESL teacher (and OBT member)
Her offbeat partner: Jeb- Banker
Location & date of wedding: Beautiful Deerfields in Horse Shoe, NC — November 7, 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding was offbeat for a few reasons. We insisted that we get married outdoors in the fall, knowing we would be battling the elements that come along with fall North Carolina mountain weather. We also insisted that our friend, who is not a U.S. citizen, be our officiant. And our wedding party consisted of friends from three different countries, conservatives, extreme liberal hippies, homosexuals, heterosexuals, models, students… all around AMAZINGLY different people.

I am considering having my bridesmaids wear wrist corsages instead of carrying bouquets. But I can't find any good, hip, cool, young-looking corsage ideas. All I have seen is fuddy, grandma styles. Help! -Melissa
Now, Melissa. You didn't specify whether you were looking for floral corsages or non-floral corsages. But I decided you wanted non-floral corsages, and so of course I turned to my beloved Etsy to help me with this. Here are a few ideas…

The Offbeat Bride: Kristen, Greenhouse Peon
Her Offbeat Partner: Derek, Greenhouse Peon also
Location & date of wedding: Courthouse / Park Building Reception, Kansas — Friday the 13th, February 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: We got married on a Friday the 13th to commemorate our first date, which was also on Friday the 13th. Luckily our families know we're a little off, so the black Chinese cheongsam dress and matching jacket (Ebay) and the skeleton cake topper didn't even cause them to bat an eyelash.

Her offbeat partner: Patrick, Softwear Control Libriarian
Location & date of wedding: Swan Garden Lakeside, Las Vegas Nevada — October 13th 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: After dating for 6 years, I asked HIM to marry me. We decided to go down to fabulous Las Vegas and tie the knot with Elvis in the least cheesy way as possible. It actually has always been the wedding I have always wanted. And it worked out for the best since all my family is from either Arizona or California.

Another week for me to geek out on wedding shoes!
Last week, I heard from several readers who were like, "Yeah sure cute — but what about those of us who want to wear flats?" While I make a point to include flats in every batch of shoes I feature, as someone who can't walk in a heel over 2 inches, I got nothing but love for the ladies who want to rock the flats on their wedding day.
And so, without further ado, here's my collection of lovely low wedding flats that will make you feel 10 feet tall:

The Offbeat Bride: Isa, Museum Mistress (and OBT member "Isa")

Location & date of wedding: Mount Majura bushland, ACT, Australia — April 11, 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: Clinton and I decided to get married over the phone while I was in Tonga working as a volunteer, and I planned the whole thing from overseas. The Offbeat Bride: Mandi, Marketing Manager
Her Offbeat Partner: Neil, Tabletop fantasy and futuristic battle-games retail assistant!
Location & date of wedding: Cooling Castle Barn, Kent, UK — 4 December 2008
What made our wedding offbeat: We had a few ideas about what we wanted; normal for us — not so normal for others it seems We had a few setbacks during our year of planning, so we stripped right back to only the things we really, really wanted. We encountered a bit of resistance from people along the way but on the day, we had what looked like a very traditional wedding from the outside but a little bit different once they were all tarpped in the room with us!!
