The Offbeat Bride: Klaudia, dog groomer

Her offbeat partner: Roland, warehouse manager

Date and location of wedding: Bride's dad's friend's pub, Kaposvar, Hungary — June 1, 2013

Our offbeat wedding at a glance: We live in England, but we're from Hungary. Because our family and most of our friends are there, we decided to get married in Hungary. Living 2000km from the place where your wedding is going to be held doesn't make planning easy. My wonderful mom and auntie were so helpful, and they were doing everything for us, but we also got help from our amazing friends. All this made it even more special.

We had an Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding planned, but it didn't exactly turn out how we wanted, so we had to improvise a lot.

Tell us about the ceremony: We are both atheists, that's why we only had a little ceremony with nothing cultural. During the ceremony, we had Metallica, Apocalyptica, Muse, Guns N' Roses, and Led Zeppelin playing. Music is very important to us. We also got married on our 100 month anniversary!

Our biggest challenge: We arrived in Hungary only a few days before the wedding, and we had to rush sorting everything out. We went to have a look at the venue the day before to make sure everything was okay, and ended up with a nightmare: they pulled the venue from us at the last minute. We were standing there having our wedding planned for the next day, all our guests were invited, and WE HAVEN'T GOT A VENUE. I've remembered my father's friend had a pub, so I've walked there on the Friday afternoon and asked if I could have my wedding there on Saturday. He was very surprised, but said we could, and we had ourselves a venue less than 24 hours before the wedding. WIN!

My favorite moment: The most meaningful moment of the wedding was having the most wonderful person I've ever met on my side all the time, and to hear him whispering Bob Marley, “Every little thing is gonna be alright” while holding hands.

What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding? The most important lesson I've learned from our wedding is truly that “every little thing is gonna be alright.” Don't stress about it, just go with the flow. I ran into so many issues with my dress, the venue (obviously), rain, decorations, etc. I can't even remember what else went wrong, but none of it matters now. All I remember is the love from our family and friends.
