Real Weddings: Northeast US

From New England to New York and Rhode Island to Long Island, couples in the Northeast have their own distinct brand of offbeat. A little urban, and little upstate, and a bit of an edge — we love you East Coast offbeat couples! Submit your wedding for consideration via offbeatwed.com/submissions.

Christa & Dan’s Whovian British invasion wedding

This couple’s love of Doctor Who is written all over their wedding: cardboard Daleks and Cybermen, British music, centerpieces with various Doctors, and even a full-size Tardis, perfect for hilarious photo opportunities. They also had an impromptu thumb war during the ceremony. Plus, we can all learn from the bride’s totally chill solution to forgetting her guest book.

Rachel & Bo’s rockin’ red and black wedding

There were a few very sweet moments in this wedding: mom walking her daughter down the aisle, friends singing at the ceremony, and a rockin’ band playing for their friends at the reception. I also can’t forget to mention the gorgeous red and black details like the bride’s shoes (matching her hair!), black crinoline, and flower clutch. It all ends up being a fabulous music-filled day.

KB & Fran’s eco Celtic “goyish gay” wedding

The bagpipes, the flowers, the tartan, the grins — this wedding is an eco-celtic dreamland. Their handfasting ceremony was officiated by a dear friend — from her smartphone — and wait till you see who joined the band onstage!

Karly & Steve’s artsy and crafty upcycled wedding

A certain superstorm may have wreaked havoc in the days before this wedding, but they pulled it all together somehow with the help of friends (and a new “BYOC: Bring Your Own Cupcakes” clause!). We’re really thankful they did, because we did not want to miss the amazing Wai-Ching dress, gorgeously-coiffed dreads, adorable family sand ceremony, and all of the DIY projects. Oh, let’s not forget the Harry Potter-inspired saxophonist/magician and impromptu break dancing on the dance floor.

Erin & Jay’s queer Jewish Dominican wedding

This pair has an awesomely diverse community willing to celebrate and totally donate their time and energy into making this wedding rock. And boy, did it. In addition to the bride’s handmade dress (out of a sari!) and groom’s kick-ass suit, there was wedding party aisle dancing, ukulele toasts, and a giant group hug right after the ceremony.

Magdalena & Jared’s Brooklyn brunch-and-bar wedding

To give their guests the Brooklyn experience they love, this couple’s going out for brunch, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, having cocktails at their favorite bar, and eating crepes from a food truck wedding was the way to go. Their pebble beach ceremony with a breathtaking view of Manhattan and beautiful wedding walk across the Brooklyn bridge made for some fantastic photos — for them, and for tourists to the Big Apple!
