Real Weddings: Northeast US

From New England to New York and Rhode Island to Long Island, couples in the Northeast have their own distinct brand of offbeat. A little urban, and little upstate, and a bit of an edge — we love you East Coast offbeat couples! Submit your wedding for consideration via offbeatwed.com/submissions.

Tradition with an edge is the key at this fall wedding in Connecticut (with a bit of horror mixed in!)

I love it when a traditional wedding ends up having a bit of an edge. Vanessa and Daniel’s fall wedding in Connecticut had just that: a creative couple who rocked a gorgeous white gown and a black crushed velvet suit. The decor was all about fall coziness with leaf decor and table settings, pumpkins, and even a few Nightmare on Elm Street details. Look out for a cameo from Freddy’s glove used to cut the cake!

This wedding was all about fairy garden meets Godzilla realness

When we talked about what we wanted most for our wedding day, “fun” was the number one item that came up. It was important to us that our wedding be joyous, loving, and a little silly, just like us. Once we found our wedding venue, a beautiful & bohemian private garden on the Allegheny river complete with a meditation hut & wandering chickens, the rest of the wedding came together fairly naturally.

But really, the stand-out here is Kate’s majestic Mak Tumang gown that steals the show.

There were traditions like a gorgeous chuppah, an intricately designed ketubah, and a hora dance, all intermingled with random dance-offs and partying down. Let’s see how they combined it all for mega fun…

Rainbow dresses and wedding pups at this “literature in miniature” wedding

We both love literature, miniatures, dogs, and film, so most of the wedding had some aspect of those themes included. We made a bookcase arch which was basically the only ceremony decor in addition to what was already in the beautiful venue. I made all the bridesmaids dresses in different jewel tones. I love retro style clothing and color and I couldn't find what I was looking for in the stores, so I made them myself!

An intimate botanical wedding in Pennsylvania with splashes of DIYed color

This sweet and tiny wedding was a handcrafted dream. Not only did bride Kelly opt for a bright pink wedding dress with a navy blue tulle petticoat, but she created almost all of the colorful decorations to add to an already gorgeous floral wonderland. The wonderland in question is Terrain at Styer’s, a botanical space […]
