I love my glasses and covet the look of brides in glasses, especially when paired with a birdcage. They just look so right together to me. It's been a while since we had a collection of brides in spectacles, so I thought it was high time for another look.

We definitely get a lot of them in our real life weddings, so we know it's popular among our Offbeat Brides. Plus, there's a helping of grooms in glasses too. So put on your glasses so you can see what the hell is going on in this superficial snack of sexy bespectacled brides!

Comments on 10 bad-ass bespectacled brides (and some grooms in glasses!)

  1. Glasses are worn to correct problems with vision, millions of people wear them every day. So, as a glasses-wearer, I don’t see why wearing glasses at your wedding it is made such a big deal of, it’s an everyday thing. I might be missing the point but oh well.

    • Like I said, it’s definitely not a big deal on this site, but we’ve gotten feedback that sometimes friends and family push back when couples want to wear their glasses.

      • I have well-meaning friends and family who implore me to get contact lenses to wear to parties, other people’s weddings or graduation. Lord knows what they’ll say when I let them know I plan to get married wearing glasses.

        • By all means if your more comfortable wearing your glasses and clearly you are then my all means you should wear your glasses for your wedding. I do think that when your doing your wedding pictures it might be a good idea to take your glasses off for few that way as well and that also may make those pushing you to not wear your glasses for your wedding happier as well.

      • THANK YOU for this article. I put my foot down and both Husband and I wore our glasses to our wedding despite many requests not to do so. Our photographer was very accommodating and did a great job avoiding lens reflections. Our photos turned out great – we look like us!

    • Since my mom is helping pay for my wedding I gave her 2 non-negotiables. She said no dogs at the wedding (which I agree, ours aren’t well behaved enough to not jump on the guests or try to steal the cake) and NO GLASSES. I now have to get fitted for contacts…. So I like posts like this to show her that you can wear glasses and still look “bridal”.

    • I was planning to wear my glasses, because, having worn them for the past 22 years, I really feel like I have too much face when I don’t wear them. Like there is nothing bulky, black, and fashionable to break up that VAST expanse of face. I know it’s just because they’re an important part of my mental self-image.

However, Groom wants me to wear contacts during the ceremony, because he thinks my eyes are bubbly. I’ll still wear the glasses for the reception, since contacts and swimming pools don’t really mix.

      • Oh man, me too! I’ve only been wearing glasses for about 4 years, but they’re already so ingrained in my self-image that I feel like my face is really exposed when I’m not wearing them. The only feeling I can relate it to is when I realize that I forgot to draw my eyebrows on before I went out (blondes of the world, despair)

  2. This appeals to the nerd in me so much. All the hotness! And I’m a required glasses wearer as well as my boyfriend/partner in crime. 🙂

  3. People assume almost 100% of the time that I will be wearing my contact lenses. Which, to be fair, I will for the ceremony. It’s just easier with getting hair and makeup done, as well as with my veil…it doesn’t sit right on my face with my glasses.

I will, however, be switching over the for reception. My eyes tend to dry out a bit when I drink alcohol, and besides, I will have had them in for over 8 hours by then and will be ready to get those suckers out!

  4. Just seeing the title of this post made me happy. I can’t see without my glasses & I don’t wear contacts. Moreover, glasses are a part of who I am. When I got engaged, SO MANY people asked me if I’d be wearing my glasses on my wedding day. It really stole a little bit of my glasses mojo for a minute there. Yay for birdcage veils and glasses on wedding day. Both are awesome.

  5. I bowed to pressure to go without my specs at my first wedding. This time around… no way. Glasses on, all day long.

  6. I wore glasses at my wedding…wouldn’t be myself without them. Have had a few thoughtless people make comments about it – “What shame about the glasses!”, which is probably a little bit like saying “What a shame about your face!” 😛

  7. hahahahah high-larious!

i actually took my glasses OFF for my wedding, so i wouldn’t be obsessed about ppl staring at me. Sometimes, itz a blessing to be blind. LOL hahahahahahahaah

    • I wore my glasses – I don’t like contacts – but I took my glasses off for a couple of photos in the session with our photographer, per request of my husband. That was a mistake. I too, am a little blind without my glasses. And it shows in the photos. You can tell my gaze is not focused and you can tell I am trying to make out my surroundings. The only photograph without glasses that turned out nice is one where I stare at my husband’s face 5 inches away! (I am near-sighted, so in that case I really was seeing something ;)).

      • I’ve thought about taking mine off for pictures, but my FH loves me in glasses and wants me to wear them. Even though I’ve only had them for about four years, they’re definitely a part of my look. When I first got them, I went to my eye doctor HOPING to need glasses, because I thought my face needed some accessorizing. 🙂

Also, I really hate contacts. Even with the soft, breathable ones that the lady on the commercial says she can’t feel, I spent every second of every day I wore contacts wanting desperately to take them out.

I do want some really pretty frames for the wedding, though. Maybe something sparkly. I’ll have to look for something. 🙂

        • When I first got contacts, my astigmatism was so bad, I had to wear rigid gas permeable lenses. I told the doctor, “It feels like I have something in my eye!” He reminded me, “You do!”

  8. I love seeing these beautiful bespeckled brides! I have been wearing glasses for 18 years, they are pretty much my signature. I love my plain “basic black” frames 🙂

  9. I am a glasses-wearer, and I was planning to go without on my big day in three months time. This post has made me reconsider!

I can’t wear contact lenses as I require a prism in one lens, which my optician says can’t be provided in contacts so he won’t let me have them.

My only worry is spending all that time on rockin’ eye makeup and then people not being able to see it because of my specs… :/

    • My experience is that people do notice, IF you apply enough make-up. So, really, you can go ALL OUT on eye make-up, without feeling ‘too much’ :D.

      • As a makeup artist who also wears glasses, I can assure you that your rockin’ wedding face does not have to be hidden whilst sporting your specs!
Just make sure you use a healthy helping of under-eye concealer (the frames can cause extra shadows) and Define, Define, Define! If you have bolder, darker frames like I do, try to go for bolder eyeliner as well -Retro cat-eyes look SUPER snazzy with glasses!- and use a slightly deeper shade of your eyeshadow (if you plan to wear any) to define the crease of your eye.
But most of all, you should feel like YOU! That’s why brides should have the choice to wear what they friggin’ want that day, right?

    • If you have the funds, get some “rimless” glasses – you can see what’s going on around you, you can rock the eye makeup, and people can see it!

  10. several people asked me if i was going to wear my glasses when i got married. i was like, “well yea cuz i’d like to see.” what the heck? i didn’t get it either.

  11. Both me and my fiance wear glasses. We’re both going to be wearing our glasses to our wedding. For me, I think I look strange without my glasses on. I’ve worn glasses since I was 8 years old – and I’ll wear them on my wedding day.
My fiance just got new glasses because I insisted he get rid of his glasses he’s had for 8 years and get something nicer. I love his new ones! He has transition lenses though (they turn dark outside) so just before the wedding we’re taking them down to the place he got them and getting the lenses switched out so that it doesn’t look like he’s wearing sunglasses in every picture.

  12. When we married 7 mos. ago, I hadn’t been to the optometrist in 12+ years. I was recently fitted for “optional” rx glasses for driving. My husband laughed that I was excited to get not just glasses but RED FRAMES! He’s had glasses forever… I’m even considering wearing them as an accessory to a cousins wedding in may… Hmmmmm

  13. SO Cute, loving the turquoise frames.

Almost makes me wish my eyesight was ever-so-slightly deficient so I could have a good excuse… we all know open frames are for wanna-be-hipsters so I won’t go there. lol

    • If your vision is still perfect, but you would really like to wear prescription glasses at certain times without doing any harm to you can order a very nice pair of glasses from “zennioptical.com” and just get -.50 lenses put in. They will only make your vision 20/15 and you should find them even nice for driving at night.

  14. Always love when I see brides in glasses!! One more step to me feeling as normal as a girl like me can feel ^_^ haha

The other sites out there always have the perfect size 4 bride with the perfect straight hair and no glasses and so I love when I come here to see all the real women (not that a size 4 is not real! my best friend is very real…haha …but I hope you understand what I mean) …

Just love love all the amazing people and ideas and themes I see here ^_^

  15. Excited to get married in glasses, I don’t do contacts, the missus can do as she likes but I think we’re both going to let our g33k flags fly. I just think if there’s a chance of her wearing make up and crying and having sensitive eyes to begin with, we’re looking at disaster. Might take some of the wedding expense budget and get new frames.

  16. Love it! Guess I won’t have to worry about not being able to get Lasik before the wedding. It’s definitely time for new frames though!

  17. Even though I know many of us are “geeks” or “nerds” and flaunt it, and know the stereotype… I hate that wearing glasses on your wedding day would be considered “geeky.” As many people said–glasses are very much a part of “us!” It becomes what we see in the mirror, how people see us, and ultimately, how we see the world. Why would it be offbeat to wear them on the wedding day? Not that anyone here is saying that… but other *ahem* well known bridal sites have been known to.

  18. I am super frustrated over this issue. I have worn glasses my entire life (starting with weeney ones at age 2) so the idea of not wearing them doesn’t seem logical. My problem is that my glasses are transition frames, so they dark in the sun and we are getting married outdoors. I obviously want to show my eyes in the pictures, but I also want to see.
So far the only solution I can come up with is to buy frames similar to mine but with plain glass so I can take the pictures.
    Any other solutions out there?

    • No solution, sorry… but at my parents’ wedding my Dad had the same issue with transition lenses and their pictures were lovely.

Eighties hair + (unintentional) sunglasses = wedding photos made of WIN 🙂

  19. Could you just get your optometrist to grind you non-transition lenses to go in your existing frames? Any glasses place could pop the transitions ones out and the clear ones in for you, and vice versa. Plus, then you’d have backup lenses in case anything happened to your transitions ones! And since frames are generally the most expensive part of glasses, the lenses should’t cost too much (unless you get schmancy, no-glare, high density ones like me, but even then they’re cheaper than a whole new pair).

  20. Love this! I wear glasses the majority of the time, and while I do own contact, I’m not planning to wear them for the wedding. My partner has always known me in glasses, and while he has said I should wear what I”m comfortable in, I know he prefers me in glasses. I will likely take some photos without my glasses. Plus, due to some medications, my eyes gets really dry easily and contacts do not help that

  21. My boy actually intentionally kept his reading glasses non-prescription so that he could wear them at the wedding! He had just bought awesome new vintage frames a couple of weeks before the wedding and realized that if he left the plain glass lenses in them he could wear them at the wedding and it would look beautiful with the outfit we had picked out for him. I totally agreed. After the wedding he brought them in to have prescription reading lenses put in them and now he only wears them at his computer. Vintage glasses FTW!!

  22. I work in optical and I train people to wear contacts. Brides who don’t really want to wear contacts, but think they have to because they’re getting married, are one of the worst demographics to train. If you don’t WANT to do it, it’s hard to get past the blink reflexes.

I’ll be getting married in my glasses, because THIS IS WHAT I LOOK LIKE, dammit. I only wear dailies, sometimes, at the lake. The bf fell for me in my glasses. He’ll like me just fine in glasses and a wedding dress.

  23. I have a fairly weak prescription with transition lenses. I’m going to take my glasses off for the ceremony only because we are doing pictures outside afterwards and I don’t want to look like I’m wearing sunglasses. I also don’t want red marks on my nose for the pictures. The minute we are back inside, the glasses are going back on. I love my glasses. I wish I had the extra money to put in non-transition lenses. I’d wear my glasses for the entire day. Can’t justify the $$$ for just one day though.
