It's been a while since we've gotten to use the bald bride tag! We're so excited to bring you this amazing shoot from photographer Sandrachile featuring the luminous Megan. Let's hear from Sandra about the shoot…

In a society lead by fitness maniacs, diet pills and shakes, and extensive emphasis on corrective makeup (hello contouring), we have been told that the value of each individual relies on the looks, with absurd standards imposed by an unrealistic media.

As a photographer, I am always faced with the pressure to digitally “perfect” the human body — a body that is already perfect in its nature. I am one of the few photographers who believes that what makes people beautiful is who they are, and how they embrace candid life, with emotions and funny faces (and not how smooth their skin is, how white their teeth can be, nor how many stretch marks they “don't” have).

THE MODEL

Since she was eight years old, Megan has had Alopecia Areata, a condition that affects the hair follicles, making folks hairless. When I discovered this, rather than covering her head with a wig or a veil for the shoot, I decided to embrace the baldness, as a statement of her inherent beauty.

The beautiful dresses and accessories of Kata Banko Couture, the lovely flowers of Sapphire & Lace, and the support and talent of Mashaida Tran from Anywhere and Somewhere Photography came along to enhance this styled photo shoot.

Together we want to go against the emphasis the wedding industry puts on hair by making a statement of beauty without boundaries.

  1. DEAR GOD. The beauty on display here is beyond beyond beyooooondddd

  2. …for a second here, I forgot I’m happily hitched and wanted to convince this stunningly gorgeous woman to run away with me instead.
I’m good now, my sanity’s back, but I do wanna follow her around and possibly worship at her feet a little.
Ok truly seriously though, this is breathtaking. She’s the kind of beautiful that’s more than “nice to look at”, but like..the kind that actually moves me. Like a great piece of music. It doesn’t hurt that the setting is awesome, the colors are stunning, and every detail of everything she’s wearing is just so damn pretty and perfect for her. I love this photoshoot so much.

  3. I’m not bald, but my hair is very, very short right now (I actually had some bald spots so I cut my hair once it started growing back in those places) and I doubt it will grow much before we get married. This post is giving me so much life and inspiration.

  4. Yes, yes, she is bald and beautiful but can we please talk about those tattoos?! That gorgeous celestial sleeve with the planets (please say they’re going to be finished) and is that HOGWARTS on her other shoulder?!

  5. Wow, I feel like this is a sign! I have Alopecia Areata, and had been completely bald (including no ‘brows !) for a few years up until about 2 years ago. Now I’m lucky enough to have enough long hair to wear up in a pony tail, carefully covering my bald patches that are now getting bigger faster than I can grow my hair to cover them. Having been bald before, I’d feel okay going back to rocking that look if it comes it. But that decision is a particularly harder one than normal given I’ll be a bride in February. Seeing this photo shoot has reassured me that I would still look ‘bridey’ even with no hair (and a pink dress :-D).
