The offbeat bride: Kelly, stay-at-home mom/alt model

Her offbeat partner: Andrew, retail slave/independent wrestler

Date and location of wedding: Carlisle Ribbon Mill, Carlisle, PA — August 7, 2012

Offbeat wedding at a glance: Our goal was to have a simple wedding that mirrored who we are. We also wanted to save as much money as possible, because we paid for the majority of the wedding ourselves. We ended up deciding on lots of color and DIYing what we could.

Our wedding was on a Tuesday at noon and we only invited our closest friends and family.

Tell us about the ceremony: We had a pretty traditional ceremony reading, and it was about five minutes long. We didn't say any vows, because I am super shy and terrified at talking in front of a lot of people. Andrew is an independent pro-wrestler, and so we had one of his wrestling referees as our officiant!

We chose our music based on the personalities of the wedding party. The best man, who is also Andrew's Andrew's tag-team wrestling partner, came out to his wrestling entrance music: “Respect My Conglomerate” by Busta Rhymes. The groom came out to “Staying Alive” by Wyclef Jean. The maid of honor, my sister, came out to “Mr. Jones” by the Counting Crows. My father and I came out to a death metal version of “The Imperial March.”

During the ceremony, “Blood Theme” from the Dexter soundtrack was playing in the background. After our first kiss, we exited to “Bad Things” from the True Blood soundtrack.

Our biggest challenge: I am the most indecisive person ever. We changed venues twice, wedding colors about eight different times, and didn't even know what dress I was going to wear until the day of. I stressed out about making sure everything was perfect, and tormented myself over wether or not people were going to like our wedding or hate it. Andrew reminded me that we're not perfect people and no one ever expected our wedding to be super traditional.

My favorite moment: I had a few favorite moments! We did almost everything ourselves, and it really touched us to see our friends and family being so helpful with everything. I also loved walking down the aisle with my father. I'm a huge daddy's girl, and I know that moment meant so much to him. And then seeing my handsome groom and how calm he was about everything made me calmer as well.

My ex's family was invited, as I am very close with my ex's mother. When I couldn't find something “old,” she gave me her mother's ring to wear. She also walked down the aisle with my daughter.

I also loved our first dance. I hate dancing and Andrew loves it, so I was proud of myself for overcoming my fears. We chose “As The World Falls Down” by David Bowie from the soundtrack to Labyrinth.

What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding? Do not stress! Seriously, don't. No matter what happens, the important point is the commitment you are making with your partner. The day really is just about your love and the commitment you are making

Comments on Kelly & Andrew’s small and simple Tuesday wedding

  1. I’m shy and incredibly indecisive, too, so I totally understand. 🙂 And hooray for week-day brides!!! I’m getting married, Monday, 9/24/12. 🙂 Lovely wedding – congrats!

  2. *Most excellent* taste in music!!!

We exited on the same song “Bad things’ by Jace Everett!

Really enjoyed reading this because it’s reflected my own wedding (2 years ago now…on a Wednesday – 20.10.2010!). We really enjoyed keeping it really simple and went with the flow on a lot of things but the one sticking bit was the music!

Amazing photographs, you all look like you had a beautiful day!

  3. I love everything about this especially the choice in music! You looked amazing I love a tattooed bride!

  4. Beautiful couple! The indoor space looks really cool with all the wood, brick and natural light. Congrats! I love Tuesdays!!

  5. I love that you chose As The World Falls Down by David Bowie. That is one of my single most favorite songs in the world. And now I have to go and gift the the metal Imperial March to my fiance. 🙂 I would have loved going to your wedding. 😀

  6. I saw your photo on Offbeat Mama and my first thought as a “grown up”?? “She looks just like a princess and I wanna grow up to look like her!”

…Yep. My inner child is still alive.
