The offbeat bride: Tarryn, administrator

Her offbeat partner: Dylan, drummer/sales consultant

Date and location of wedding: Die Boomhuisie, Krugersdorp, Gauteng, South Africa — January 14, 2012

Our offbeat wedding at a glance: Everything was very low-cost, but perfect for us. Everything just seemed to fall into place from the wedding cake to the venue and to the photographer, Allan McLuckie.

I found this lovely little restaurant in mine and Dylan's hometown called Die Boomhuisie. It had a great vintage feel, which worked for our vintage rock ‘n' roll theme. It also had some amazing scenery and tree houses. We did not have to pay a venue hire fee, which was exactly what we were looking for.

41 of our closest friends and family gathered to celebrate our special day with us. It was the happiest day of my life, and to be totally honest with you all I can remember is how happy I felt. The details get a little lost in my reverie.

Tell us about the ceremony: Dylan and I are not religious, and we found a lovely priest who did non-denominational weddings. The ceremony was short, only about 15 minutes in length. It felt like it flew by.

Our biggest challenge: Getting the invitations out was a challenge as we decided to get married only three months before the date. We are very spontaneous like that. Although we were planning on getting married in October 2013, we have been together for nine years and didn't know why we were waiting. A few phone calls were made and the new date was set!

A Month of Mixbooks:
As part of our partnership with Mixbook, this couple has been given a free wedding photo book to show off their wedding photos. We'll be featuring some of these Offbeat Bride Mixbooks in a few weeks!

My favorite moment: Shortly after the wedding, my my great-great granny passed away at age 91, so the most meaningful moment was having her there to celebrate with us. Bless her soul.

My funniest moment: Dylan and I forgot to include ourselves in the catering count! Everyone was tucking into their starters and we were asking ourselves, “Where is ours?” The restaurant fixed our oversight, and in a flash we had our meal.

My advice for Offbeat Brides: BE HAPPY and enjoy the moment. Also try not to forget to say thank you to everyone who helped you. It will mean a lot to them. Having family and friends in your life who help is invaluable.
