Julie and Rebecca had their New York City wedding at Housing Works Bookstore in Soho. They had their Ketubah ceremony surrounded by stacks of books and warm wood. Sarah of Sarah Tew Photography said it was the first full-on, reception-included same sex event she's photographed since New York legalized same sex marriage. As you can probably imagine, there was a lot of joy to behold.

One of the most amazing parts of the evening was the choreographed dance, based on the final dance from Dirty Dancing — complete with LIFT! So fantastic. Scroll and enjoy this fashionable, elegant, urban wedding.

It is so obvious these two had the time of their lives. And they owe it all to each other. For more of this bookstore-meets-Dirty Dancing wedding, check out the blog post over at Sarah Tew Photography. I need to go re-watch a certain movie now…

Comments on A bookstore same-sex wedding with Dirty Dancing twist

  1. Oh. My. Glob.

You guys are SO insanely good looking, what a joyful event! Love the dancing, love the setup for the reception, love that it’s in a bookstore, LOVE your ketubah.

  2. So jealous of the bookstore wedding! I called our library about using it after hours. The lady said “We don’t do weddings” and hung up on me! I like how you used the quirkiness of the space to your advantage.

  3. What a gorgeous wedding–and it made me stupidly happy to see how happy everyone looks in all the photos. So many smiles!

    • That rocked me too! I have to admit, when I first read the title and that the dance was “complete with lift” I was a little snootily skeptical. But I was knocked the heck off my snooty post! That is THE BEST way to reenact the famous Dirty Dancing lift. With a twist indeed! Amazing!!

  4. This is so beautiful! I’m getting married at Housing Works next year, also in a Jewish ceremony, so I was very interested in seeing how this couple used the space. What an amazing looking event. Mazel tov.

  5. Can I ask where the shoes that the bride in the first pic on the left is wearing are from? They are awesome, I totally want them for my wedding!

  6. aw, thanks everyone. we did have a blast. the shoes are by coclico, rebecca got them at anthropologie. and the ketubah was by our friend eliza (who also did our invitations): morrisessex.com. she’s awesome. 🙂

  7. The last picture of you two so smiley made me a little teary-eyed, I must admit. Looks like an amazing day!

  8. Okay, I already commented, but I have to say: This is one of my all-time favorite wedding profiles on OBB! Also, it is because of you that we are having our ketubah and invitations designed by Eliza, and we are so stoked!

    • oh cool! glad you connected with her, i’m sure you’ve discovered she’s the best. have a great wedding!
