We asked Karen to give us more information, and she admitted that Ian did the writing since he has a flair for comedy.

  1. Wow…that’s awesome. Particularly heading off the glass-clinking. Very well done, that is SO annoying!

I wish it made sense to copy you just for the reception – I’d love to make a handout with questions like “which of these weird beers should I drink” (all of them!), “why did you put me at a table with half strangers?” (to make friends), and “where are the favors?” (nowhere but you should pillage the room before you leave!).

  2. This was pretty much all Ian – he’s really good at coming up with stuff like this, whereas I’m not at all! I’m glad people liked this. It was a big hit at our wedding too. 🙂

    • Love this! Such a wonderful way to set the tone and to showcase the groom’s talents!

  3. Absolutely adored the dice-rolling kiss! Fantastic! Though we beat it by not using glass- sadly, plastic makes a bit of a noise too:(

  4. I love this!! I’m saving it for 5 years! My boyfriend and I have a 5 year plan… we are going to wait 5 years to get married!

  5. i loved the bonus points… what are they for? nothing.

    haha very very funny!

  6. Thanks for posting this! I saw the photo in the original post and was dying to see what was inside. I have to say…I was not disappointed. 😀

  7. Love this, it is great!! Especially the part about not clinking glasses. I refuse to go running across the room because someone is tapping a glass. I may have to steal it and try to find a variation of our own 🙂

  8. On the topic of glass clinking…one of the highlights from our reception actually was my grandpa clinking his glass repeatedly, a huge smile on his face each time. He had kept his fork hidden under his napkin when dishes were picked up so that he could have it all night. Ha ha! Grandma kept telling him to leave us alone, but we found it amusing and obliged him each time.

My opinion on that out of the way…I do think this program is cool! I’d get a kick out of receiving something like that at a wedding. It’s entertaining and useful.

  9. Fun! Ours included some explanation, but several pages of games (word search, crossword puzzle, etc) to stay entertained before wedding (which ended up starting late), and at reception (or when they went home and couldn’t sleep before finishing, or whatever).

  10. I love, love, love this! I think something like this would be so much fun for our guests and really reflect our personalities!
On the glass-clinking thing: I went to a wedding where the couple would only kiss if you sang a few bars from a love song into the DJ’s mic…pretty fun, too!

  11. This is way too much fun! I never liked the basic program! This is definitely going on the “honey can we please PLEASE add this to the wedding!” list! Thanks!

  12. I added one to ours, please feel free to rewrite to fit your needs.

None of this seems very traditional.

Well I don’t know if you’ve met the bride or groom yet but you may notice that one of their best features is actually their out of norm-ness. Lets just say that you’re lucky they’re not being married by a Chewbacca Elvis impersonating rabbi; though not from a lack of trying.

    • “Chewbacca Elvis impersonating rabbi”

I just about fell off the couch!!! LOVE this! I’ve gotten so tired of hearing my mother say things like, “but you NEED to do this. People EXPECT this.”

      • Every time my mom gives me ‘that’ look, I remind her that I may be her only girl but I’m me and she’d be bored if I wasn’t who I am and did what I want.

  13. Ok… I admit it… after I saw this I got inspired to do something similar. But not for my wedding… for a school fact sheet on Presbyopia! It was fun!

  14. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! I can tell you two are a bunch of fun. Thinking of borrowing the idea with a few changes. I’ll probably make it rather fancy pants looking. Traditional looking stationary with anything but traditional wording.

  15. Our ceremony was very short due to my intense shyness in front of large groups of people and the fact that we were already officially married (we had done a proper ceremony at City Hall with our immediate family the day before). For us, the day of the wedding was about having fun with family and friends. Our ceremony itself was more private.

But I agree that a wedding is very personal and needs to be decided on by the couple involved. Not everything works for everyone. 🙂

  16. This is awesome! Definitely an entertaining and informative piece to add to any wedding or event!

  17. I loved this idea! Thanks so much for posting this on Offbeat Bride (found thru Pinterest, of course!); I’ve decided to use this as my inspiration for my own programme, since I’m the humorous one in our relationship and I’ve been looking for an outlet for my slightly zany creativity.

  18. I ‘borrowed’ this idea but called it a Wedding Survival Guide, it was a great talking point and set the tone of the rest of the evening really well. Thank you for sharing this 🙂

  19. Stole this idea for our wedding invitations. Turned our wonderfully and have received a ton of positive feedback. Solid idea.

  20. This is amazing. This is amazing. This. This right here is amazing. I promise I won’t copy it word for word, but I am absolutely doing something like this at our wedding. It eliminates the need to make signs for everything, and it gives the hubb’s two younger siblings something to do. I love this so so much.

  21. I absolutely love this!! I have been trying to find a way to go off the “traditional” path for my programs and I think I just found it!! Hope you don’t mind but I’m going to borrow the concept! P.S. your new husband did a superb job!

  22. Is there a template for this? So people are able to create their own?…I am not very computer savvy but I am determined to do this for our wedding….I just need to know how haha

    • It appears to be a landscape-aligned Microsoft Word document with 4 columns of plain text. Very, very basic. I’m not sure why a template would be necessary.

  23. I love these wedding programs! Really funny and sarcastic, works for me! This is an awesome way to get your guests more comfortable, and help them enjoy their time even more!

  24. I Love the idea. I’m definitely borrowing this idea for our wedding. Our wedding is turning into something more traditional, and that’s not what I want. I want something different, and this will add to it. Thank You!

  25. 485033 430421 Spot on with this write-up, I truly believe this site needs significantly a lot more consideration. I?ll probably be once more to read significantly a lot more, thanks for that information. 137490

  26. First and foremost, your program is a piece of communication which guides your guests through your experience and establishes a tempo. The messaging is key. The first step in your creative journey is deciding how to present yourselves. Will you go with a classic look or something trendy that will make a splash?

  27. do you know where i can buy that So You’re Going To Sit Through A Wedding: Fun Informational Pamphlet ? that i can customize for my wedding ?
