Sandy and James celebrated Mexican culture and Día de los Muertos at their wedding in Encinitas, California, on July 30, 2011. The ceremony was at J Street Viewpoint, a small public park overlooking the ocean.
Huge paper flower bouquets, a black dress (plus gorgeous red shawl), and lots of papel picado were highlights in a wedding with a huge wedding party! 20 members total plus four children.
The ladies of the wedding party walked down to an instrumental version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters." Sandy's dad walked her down the aisle to Jimmy Hendrix's "Little Wing." And they wore fantastic red shoes!
The bridesmaids' bouquets were inspired by Mexican tissue paper flowers. And since this was a budget wedding, they added tons of color with little cost. James made Sandy's real flower bouquet himself, which she had dried and saved after the wedding.
The skull and succulent cake was red velvet on the inside and stained everyone's teeth red!
The ceremony overlooked the ocean and had built-in seating.

Sandy said, "I went through a million ideas in the year before and none of them were really used. The wedding just kind of fell together in the last three months." Sometimes everything just comes together in the end.

I really like that this wedding isn't littered with kitschy details. That can be fun sometimes, but they really made it classy and you definitely get the feeling and perception of what they were aiming for. It's subtle but you can still hear their voices. Lovely!
