20 funky bridesmaid dresses under $60 #Stuff we love#bridesmaid dress January 21 | Ariel Meadow Stallings offbeatbride Of course we're all big fans of the non-matching bridesmaid, but sometimes it's nice to give your ladies a little guidance. That in mind, I thought I'd highlight a few of my favorite bridesmaid-ready dresses from Offbeat Bride affiliate ModCloth, aiming for the uber-affordable under-$60 options. Modcloth has a whole new wedding style section, which is awesome… but I went kinda off-road with these selections. My goal? Fancy enough to feel wedding-y, but fabulous enough to be worn to a cocktail party after the fact. Ideally, your bridesmaids' dresses would be something that you, the bride, would wear on a non-wedding day. You'll absolutely find some plus size options in here, too! …Perhaps something even something you'd wear to an engagement party or shower? As always, click the photos to learn more! Also, Modcloth sold the same dress, but at triple the price, that I had bought at Charlotte Russe for $20 and two years earlier. Therefore I am sadly a bit skeptical about their offers now. 3 agree Reply I agree…I absolutely love some of these dresses but at 6' tall they are OBSCENELY short on me… 2 agree Reply I'm 5'9" and I have found that their is a general trend towards dresses that are SO SHORT on me. I'm too old! Ha. – Becca 1 agrees Reply Hilarious! "If it's too short, you're too old." 😉 Reply I noticed the same thing on Modcloth! A dress I really wanted from there was selling for $65 and after daydreaming about it for several months, I found the EXACT SAME dress at Forever 21 for $19. 1 agrees Reply I think most of my girls have gone with Goddiva – however (BIG however) their idea of M/L doesn't tally with mine! One dress arrived and seriously, I might have fitted into it when I was 16 and tiny but not since. Boooo 1 agrees Reply another great idea if you want your bridal party to, you know, look like a bridal party but don't want to be all fancy and dressy and having everybody look the same, bridesmades t-shirts work great. They can wear them over anything, skirts, dresses or pants. Also, t-shirts are the ultimite for the bridesmade dress you'll wear again. Reply OMGSTFU Mod Cloth has plus sizes?! WTF have I been?! Why wasn't I given the memo? Reply I'd say they only sort of have plus sizes at best. Only some items come in plus sizes, and compared to size charts for other plus size retailers, I'd say Mod Cloth's largest size is equivalent to an 18W or 20W. Reply Nice! I can't believe these are in the $60 range Reply Awesome! I'm not having bridesmaid, but I found the perfect dress for our Pre-Wedding party the night before! Thank goodness I'm only 5'3", juding from the comments. 1 agrees Reply This site is so awesome I could puke! I'm in love with all these dresses, and the bathing suits. We totally have to go somewhere with a beach for our honeymoon now, because I am buying me one of these. Maybe a few. And I'll need a couple dresses for engagement photos, and the engagement party, and bridal shower, and bachelorette party … And clothes for the honeymoon, of course. Oh, if only we could go to Havana … Reply Ask Megan about the bathing suits: she's got one of 'em! Reply This is my concern as well. I LOVE the look of the dresses, but am wary of the quality. Has anyone ordered from here and can speak to the quality of the construction and fabric? 1 agrees Reply ModCloth sells clothing from a lot of different designers, and I've heard that the quality varies accordingly. I'm very happy with my own purchases, but reading reviews on several pieces by the same designer might be a good idea. Reply I haven't ordered any of the dresses listed here, but I purchased my wedding dress from ModCloth. It's a fairly heavy fabric (the brand name is Stop Staring) and seems to be put together really well. (My mom has sewn for years and usually is unhappy with the quality of new clothes; but she seemed impressed by the construction of this one.) Reply i've ordered some shoes from them, and they were adorable, but really not good quality. The sequins kept falling off and they were very sweaty. The sizing was also not that good. I paid $30 for them. You're getting what you pay for, not a deal. However, they have phenomenal costumer service and they will refund your purchase if you send it back for any reason. Reply I'm a little skeptical now on the quality (the lengths don't bother me, even though I'm 5'7, and I know a woman in her late 50s who looks fabulous in short dresses, so age is not an excuse!). Adorable dresses (really adorable!), but hopefully Modcloth is paying attention to reviews? Actually, it's more frustrating for us to find adorable dresses and shoes, only to be disappointed in the quality when we tear open the parcel. I'd rather pay $20 more for a dress or a pair of shoes that equally adorable and (reasonably) durable (if it's that cute, you want to enjoy them for years to come! :- ) Sorry, didn't mean to be a kill-joy. Anyone have positive reviews on the quality of Modcloth? Maybe it's the classic "Everyone complains about the bad, but never points out the good!" ;- ) Reply I've only bought a belt from there, but so far it has held up quite nicely. The waistband is elasticized, and that material has withstood plenty of stretching/use. I will say that ordering a size up on most items is not a bad idea, though. And I'm not sure if this goes for dresses, but I did get a free headband along with my belt. It was a nice surprise, and it fit pretty well. It was a little tight at first, but it stayed put (which is amazing given my mop of comparatively slick hair). Just my two cents (even though due to inflation they're not even worth that much these days). Reply Another great website for plus size ladies is shopshop.com and debs.com. Both prices are great and read pretty good views of feedbacks there. The trouble Im having is deciding on what dress to get from there!! Reply I love ModCloth, but my biggest concern with choosing a bridesmaid dress from their site is that their inventory is so unreliable. Things are always coming and going, and you never know what's going to sell out when–so the selection is great, but the reliability is not. I would only buy bridesmaid dresses if you knew for sure that all of your attendants were purchasing their dress THAT DAY–if you give them a couple of months, there's a good chance that the dress you love would sell out before everyone bought theirs. 2 agree Reply I don't know what dresses everyone is looking at when they say the prices aren't bad… I'm looking at a white dress with pink bananas on it that's essentially a long-cut tank top for $70. Some of their stuff is downright adorable, but I can agree with some of their things being far to short for the longer ladies (I'm at 5.10). Thankfully, I've only bought their longer-ish frocks! 1 agrees Reply Some of the plus size dresses are out of my price range so will have to keep looking for my friends wedding. Reply I love the idea of cute bridesmaids dresses that the girls can wear again. Even better if it's affordable. The pink and black cherry dress would be great for a retro-themed wedding. Reply I am particularly in lust with that halter neck dress with the red heart design! Getting something similar made for my engagement party next month. Reply I know. I want that dress so hard! Reply My girls are getting "Magic" "Miracle" dresses from etsy. There are lots similar to this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62423416/royal-blue-bridesmaids-wraptwist They are great because people can super customize it for sleeves, halter, whatever! Like 30 different ways! Reply My big problem with modcloth is that their clothes are no where near the quality I would expect for the prices. Not to mention as many previous posters pointed out the sizing is completely wonky. I can't order anything from them due to the simple fact that while God granted me a large quantity of junk in the trunk my upper regions are decidedly lacking which means that everything I've ordered has fallen off up top and been like a sausage wrapper down below. They are also extremely short on me and I'm only 5'4" so that's a rare occurrence. Reply I think a lot of quality problems mentioned have much to do with the brand that actually makes the dress. Stop Staring and Tulle Clothing tend to be pretty good, but some of the other brands aren't so much. Modcloth dresses are often not very friendly for the large busted also. Super cute though. Reply I love how Modcloth dresses LOOK, just not how they fit! I'm five foot five, and I have some bobbly bits that Modcloth dresses leave flapping in the wind! Would it kill them to add another two or three inches to the hemline and really make us retrophiles swoon? Reply Does anyone have any ideas of where to get affordable long bridesmaid dresses? Reply I own the dark red lacy dress, 4th from the top. Its a little above knee-length on my 5'4 frame. Quite flattering cut. The fabric isn't what I really expected – its a very soft stretchy cottony feel, so not as formal as I expected it to be when I ordered it. I shop there quite a bit – I have about 4 dresses! I also own a swimsuit from ModCloth and OMG I love it to death. It is the first/only swimsuit that doesn't make me want to break down in tears when I see my reflection.
