Coming Jan. 9, 2011: Philadelphia's Lovesick Expo! A wedding expo that WON'T make you want to die!
I've read countless horror stories on the Tribe about brides who went to bridal expos just to see what they could see, only to find themselves running out of the building as if it were on fire, feeling skeeved out, pissed off and as if they had escaped from the depths of hell itself.
But Offbeat Bride sponsor, Philadelphia's Lovesick Expo is about to change all that! It's a bridal expo that won't make you want to want to run screaming. Lovesick is an exclusive expo showcasing a diverse group of Philly-area wedding vendors — featuring hand-crafted and eco-friendly goods and services that appeal to, well, YOU GUYS. Seriously, I just looked over the featured vendor list and saw a lot of familiar names that have been previously featured Offbeat Bride! (That's totally a good "this isn't going to be your typical wedding expo" sign.)
Besides awesome wedding vendors, Lovesick will also feature…
When?January 9, 2011
10am — 3pm
Where? World Café Live, in the heart of Philadelphia.
How much? $6.50 online, $10 at the door.
- live-spinning DJs
- neo-burlesque performances
- a cash bar
- alternative bachelor/bachelorette party ideas
- green tips
- giveaways
- seminars
The event will also be a green affair through the purchase of carbon offsets and other eco-friendly practices.
The event sponsor, Hi-Society Entertainment is a two-man DJ team (and featured OBB vendor!) that has been spinning at offbeat weddings for several years.
"We want to expose more couples to the cool, different, and atypical ways to pull off a wedding that we get to experience each weekend."
-- Hi-Society owner and DJ, Jon Holmes.
Offbeat brides in Philly, you're prayers have been answered: a non-traditional, eco-friendly wedding expo with a cool, cocktail party vibe has arrived! So, buy your tickets now (psst: they're only $6.50 online and $10 at the door) and then have some actual FUN at a bridal expo!

Grr! I'll be back in Cleveland before then! Anyone know of anything similar headed to the Cleve? There must be other OBBs around here!

They did a bridal expo like this in Pittsburgh too! http://handmadeinmarriage.com/
I do like going to "traditional" bridal shows, but woohoo for indie bridal expos! They must be even more fun!
It already went down this year, hopefully it will be back up again, but the website is still up with all the vendors who participated on it. Great place to look if you're on the other side of PA or near the border in Ohio

Ugh, I'm in the right place at the wrong time! I live in the Philadelphia area but am nowhere close to getting married! Maybe I'll go check it out anyway…

Of course this is happening in the city I live, a week before I get married, when I will be out of town. Sounds amazing!

Woot! The Future-Husband & I booked our tickets for this a while back and then I found out two super-talented friends are participating vendors. Should be fun!

Aw, I'm kinda disappointed that the "not want to die" tag is not the official one for the show. But awesome that it exists. I'm stunned that I haven't heard of this in NorCal (hello SF?)… yet. Although I loved suggesting it to vendors at the more typical fairs and watching their eyes glaze over, lol.

I'd love it if OBB could send someone to this and report back! Maybe a reader who lives in the area….pay their admission and a drink or two in exchange for an account of their experience there! I live in Chicago but I'd love to hear about this event.
