What made our wedding offbeat: Although I did wear white, I did not wear a dress.

We had a non-religious ceremony that was officiated by my mother's close friend.

It was amazing and so wonderful to have someone close to us officiate our big day!

I picked all kinds of funky music to play. For example, I walked down the aisle to A String Quartet Tribute to Tool's song Sober.

Little captain Then my hubby and I walked back down the aisle to It's Time To Party by Andrew W.K.

My favorite silly song though was Too Many Dicks (On The Dancefloor) by Flight of the Conchords, which we played when I threw my bouquet!

Tell us about the ceremony: Our ceremony was totally religion free, as both myself and my husband are atheists. We featured a wine ceremony, just to bulk things up, and included a quote from a sci-fi book that we both like "May you always drink deep, may you never be thirsty."

Our wedding reading was the zombie reading that was featured on this site a while back. I've added it, along with our vows and wine ceremony, to our wedsite if you'd like to read it.

Our biggest challenge: My biggest challenge was definitely staying true to what I wanted. I want everyone to be happy and I knew that certain things were trivial. (Really, will I have such a terrible time if I don't like so-and-so's outfit?) Even so, I found myself getting upset when I didn't always get my way.

Luckily, my hubby is more grounded than I am and was able to talk sense into me so that I didn't go all bridezilla on anyone. Yes, this WAS our day, but it also was a very special day to a lot of other people, who were only there because we had asked them to come. Once I was able to get that firmly in my head, I became sane again … well, mostly. ;) Doing the Axl Rose dance

Was there anything you were sure was going to be a total disaster that unexpectedly turned out great? I was really worried about the first dance. My husband isn't very big on dancing and I'm not very big on practicing things. We just did a little side-to-side shuffle though and I managed to not step on his feet too much!

I was also nervous about my dance with my father. He chose Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns 'N' Roses, which isn't really a song you can dance to. We decided to try to do that crazy dance that Axl Rose always does, but again didn't really practice. We winged it and were totally amazing! Everyone complimented us on how funny and great we were. :)

Cthulhu groom

Bride and Groom Cthulhu dolls!

My favorite moment: The whole thing was meaningful! I got really choked up as I was walking up the aisle. I think the fact that I was getting married FINALLY HIT ME, right then.

Seeing everyone I love and care about there to support me and my hubby was so fantastic. I was nervous that people wouldn't like the things we'd chosen, but everyone seemed to love everything!

The MOST meaningful moment though, was when my hubby and I escaped to an empty room, exhaled, and cried/giggled together. We finally did it!
Zombie wedding party
My funniest moment: I think the funniest part was when the whole wedding party pretended to be zombies and attack the photographer! We had a fantastic time and he seemed to legitimately enjoy our goofitude! Thriller dance!

My advice for offbeat brides: I had trouble seeing my vision through. It's hard to stay firm to what you want when everyone is telling you it's wrong! IT'S SO WORTH IT! Stick out that fight (as nicely as you can, of course). Once everyone sees your awesome ideas in person, they'll understand that not only are your ideas awesome, but that you're happy because your wedding is representing who you are!

Also, there are a ton of amazing people on the Offbeat Bride Tribe who are willing to listen, give you great advice and commiserate — use us!
