Nina & Tom's super fun transportation wedding in Seattle

The offbeat bride: Nina, Network Performance Test Engineer (and OBT member) nina@ninaforsyth.org
Her offbeat partner: Tom, Core Network Engineer
Location & date of the wedding: S.L.U.T. (South Lake Union Trolley) Seattle, WA — July 11, 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: Uhm, we got married *on* the SLUT! Who knew you could rent it. After the ceremony, we all munched down on some steak and a Slurpee cake (Tom loves slurpees).
We also rented a Ride the Ducks bus/boat and took a tour of Seattle. Our guests had a great time! Although apprehensive at first, afterwards they continued to tell us how much they liked our wedding.
Our biggest challenge: The first challenge was trying to sell our idea to friends, family and vendors. They all seemed so confused. Once they got it though, they all went crazy (in a good way) and loved the idea.

The second hardest part was limited the guest list because we both wanted a small wedding and we were limited on space.
My favorite moment: I have a few. First, there was a man smoking a joint at the S.L.U.T stop where I got on. I was waiting with my parents for the trolley to pick us up (our version of walking down the aisle) and there he was, enjoying a little bit of pot. I am sure it was prescribed.
The cake. No one noticed the slurpee cake was real! We lost the stuffed fish on First ave in Seattle. Then a very nice man ran up two blocks to give it back to us.

My advice for offbeat brides: Do your hardest to stay connected to your feelings and emotions for that day. Everyone tells you to leave the stress at the door but stress is an emotion and it's ok to feel some. It's better to feel SOMETHING than to feel numb on your wedding day, even if it is just nerves. Also, rock the shoes that you want - everyone will love them.

You did your wedding right. No fussy reception decorations. No expensive venue rates. Just a creative and memorable day.
So there were strangers on the trolley with you, yes? How amazing to have accidentally witnessed that on the way to work!
Also loving that your parents were on board – literally. Congratulations!

We rented the trolley for an hour so no strangers. It was just our 30 guests and us.

I sooo wanted to check out the pictures on this wedding, but they all seem to be unavailable.
Sad sad. Hopefully they come back, because seeing a Slurpee cakes sounds amazing.
