Remember the most beautifully geeky invites that Tribe member Lara drew and designed herself? Well she's back with a unique favor idea (and as usual it's beautifully designed).

Lara explains, “My future husband and I were having a slightly silly conversation while out for dinner the other day, and he suggested that instead of making or buying favours, (or maybe as well as) we make ours actual favours. As in things we will do for people in the future to help them out.”

The cute little name tag will also enable these favors to double as place cards.

And check out how they look when they're unrolled…

They decided to make each guest a little scroll with three different favors from which they can choose — a free drink from their cash bar, custom illustrations from Lara, help moving, house/spring cleaning, computer help, cupcakes etc. And their guests can swap if they like, which is a great way to encourage conversation amongst strangers.

Comments on Putting the FAVOR in wedding favors

  1. this is positively brilliant! we are having a small wedding and arent inviting more than like 40 people who are all very close friends and family. and what a great way to give back? love it!

  2. Wow! This is a great idea. It’s funny that I’ve never heard of this before even though they’re called favors. Very cool.

  3. Brilliant!

It’s funny but it’s only now I’m wondering why they’re called favours when they’re usually anything but.

We’d have to stop people swapping them though. Don’t fancy flying 6,000 miles because my friend in California got one saying we’d help her move house. XD
(Also she has way too much crap in her house!)

    • Just tell her that the favor is to help her move – not covering the travel expenses. If she’s willing to pay your airfare then helping her move seems like a small price to pay for a free trip to California 😉

  4. this is, hands down, one of the best favor ideas I’ve ever heard of.

I had thought of doing a grab-bag type favor thing but it got vetoed.

  5. I really like this. Our close friends and family are far-flung. I fell in love with a set of favor boxes that when assembled looks like a chocolate cake. One of our favorite things to do is visit a local bakery, and we live chocolate. I want to put in a few local chocolates that I can buy in bulk. Kinda wic, but it will be meaningful for us.

  6. This is a brilliant idea! My fiance and I have been going back and forth about favors, because like Katy said, they’re usually anything but! I think that I might bring this idea up and see what he says. 😀

  7. wow, this is the first favor idea that is actually feasible for us to pull off! We have ZERO budget for favors, but both parents think they’re expected so we might be able to pull off printing these on colored copy paper from work and a few yards of $1 bin ribbon…. wheels are turning!

    • Hey Bonnie, I made these bad boys. They are super easy to do!

You just need to type out the text bit, add pictures or whatever takes your fancy. Print out on nice paper and cut to the size you want. Then cut out a slightly larger piece of tissue paper (or any kind of paper you like really as long as it’s not too thick to roll up!) and then cut a third piece of paper (or in our case fabric) that is slightly larger again. You could go for more layers if you fancied- again, as long as they weren’t too thick to roll!

Pile up the pieces of paper and fabric roughly how you want them to look unrolled, but don’t glue them together at all. Hold the layers together (to stop them sliding around and getting out of place) and starting at one end, roll the whole lot around a pencil reasonably tightly, hold the rolled up scroll firmly and slide out the pencil. Then tie the ribbon around it quick! This can be a bit tricky, get someone to hold the scroll for you if needed.

If you want to put the little tag on them, cut the tag out, hole punch it and thread the ribbon through it before tying the ribbon around the rolled up paper.

That’s about it really! Totally do-able while watching TV! Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone.

      • Sounds like a great way to use up scraps of from scrapbooking/card making or fabric crafts.

  8. What a cool idea! This way you know the guests will use your favors and you get to spend extra time with them (which is always a bonus)!

  9. This is awesome!! Bravo! If only we’d had a big enough wedding to use these… or warrant any favors at all for that matter!

  10. This is BRILLIANT! I’m sure lots of friends will take you up on helping putting together IKEA furniture!

  11. my son and daughter in law donated to 2 charities but gave each guest a $1 lotto with a penny inside a envelope which said lucky in love their names, date and that donation made to JDRF (jr. grooman has type I and in memory of bride’s aunt sue who passed from ovarian cancer) everyone loved it

  12. Hi! Love this idea! What is the name of the font you used for the word “Favours”?

    • Hi Marie, the font was called ‘Rosewood Std’ (make sure it’s set to ‘regular’ not ‘fill’ if there is an option) but I think there are lots of similar looking fonts.

Thanks glad you like the idea!

  13. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE This idea!

I’m kind of new to OBB so I’m not sure if it’s okay to ask, feel free to let me know if it’s not, but how much did it cost you to put those together?

  14. Love, LoVe, LOVE this idea! What other favours did you write on various cards?
