Jenny & Skot's formal, gothic, rainy day wedding in the park
The offbeat bride: Jenny, clothing re-sell shop on Ebay
Her offbeat partner: Skot, full-time student in Audio Production
Location & date of wedding: Swan Park, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin — June 27th 2009
What made our wedding offbeat: We had a very traditional ceremony. However we went all out for costume and decorations.
My dress was custom made from a shop in China, one of a kind, and actually didn't even see it until we flew home from Texas to Wisconsin three days before the wedding. (I couldn't believe that the only part that needed to be altered was the hem!) I had a corset mishap as I picked it up in Texas before I had the dress, and it stuck out the back! My wig was custom made from a girl in France. I had short hair and really wanted something dramatic as I have always been known to have 'unique' hair.
Also, because our wedding was in a park, and in June, we had hand painted umbrellas to insure that our bridal party was "covered" if it rained. We used the same kitty skull and crossbone design for our cake. Along with a Zombie cake topper, I found from a girl on Etsy.
We chose to have the wedding in a very small town, and I am positive that it will never be forgotten.
Our biggest challenge: Our biggest challenge was coordinating the entire wedding remotely. We had chosen our wedding date in May of 2008. And started planning before our move to Texas in September of 2008.
We found that trying to decorate a wedding with black, silver and red as our colors was difficult for everyone in the small town. We hired a decorator who catered all of the props, ribbons, bows, table settings, etc. The person who did our cake was just a guy at the local grocery store. We had no idea what to expect! (But it was awesome!)
I think the biggest challenge was just letting everything just happen as it did. We both just put alot of faith that whatever we had put together would go together… and we think it did.
My favorite moment: I think the best part of the whole event was how the rain seemed to hold off right until we said "I do" — then it started coming down in buckets. Luckily we all had the umbrellas and we able to get some really great shots after the fact.
My offbeat advice: Follow your heart.
If you want to wear a crazy cyber-dread wig on your wedding day, go for it! Don't worry about all those tattoos, or that extra bit of weight you put on in the past year planning for it. Your grandparents will probably scrinch their noses a bit, but this is YOUR special time, and after the whole day is done and you look back, you will be able to say we did it exactly how we imagined. And that is what will make it so special.

I'm so thrilled to see Jenny's wedding on here. It was a pleasure to do the umbrellas for it and an honor to have her use my googly eye'd kitty and skull and crossbones for her cake and invitations. Looks like it was a beautiful event!
