The revised and updated second edition of my book, Offbeat Bride: Creative Alternatives For Independent Brides, is now available for pre-order on Amazon! I know from the reader survey that two thirds of you haven't read the book, so here are 13 reasons why you should get the book and not just read the website.
What's new and awesome in this edition:
- New introduction, mentioning some of the crazy lessons I've learned in the three years since my book first was published … mostly stuff I've learned from offbeatbride.com readers!
- All new chapter on budgeting, with quotes from budget brides I've featured on this website.
- Brand new cover, which is exciting because unlike the cover of the first edition — this time I actually got a say in the matter, and the book cover actually matches the website's illustrations which is nice from a branding geek perspective.
- New subtitle. The old subtitle ("Taffeta-Free Alternatives For Independent Brides") was always a little confusing (you'd be surprised how many people don't know what taffeta is, and pronounce it ta-FETA, like the cheese) and honestly, I don't have anything against taffeta. The new subtitle, "Creative Alternatives For Independent Brides," is both easier to pronounce AND more in keeping with Offbeat Bride's positive, pro-active mission.
All this is to say that if you have the first edition, there's probably no need to buy the second. There's not THAT much different. But if you've been putting off getting the book because you knew the new edition was coming … GO HOP ON THAT PRE-ORDER!

I'm tempted to get it, but I am nowhere close to getting married. I'm not even in a relationship!

Beautiful new cover! Since I already have a copy, I guess I'll just have to pick one up for my brother & his fiance!

So, my poor (traditional) sister, who doesn't know what to make of my wedding plans, after all, bridesmaids should be told what dress to wear, right?! got me your book for Christmas. I think she's finally beginning to understand that her views of what marriage should be like don't always jive with mine. I still love her dearly, and I loved your book too.

Don't let that stop you, 'didi! When I bought the first one, I had no idea when I'd be getting married. But damn, is it a good read!

So I've just finished pre-ordering this book for the second newly affianced bride this week. This book Saved. My. Life. and my wedding – I could not have gotten through the whole process without thinking – I could get a colorful disco ball and stare at rainbows – and how many other wedding books recommend self-pleasure as a wedding prep tactic?

Is it odd that I want a copy despite the fact I have a copy of the first edition and got married in May?

Er, how is taffeta pronounced?

Finally ordered! Glad I waited, as I didn't know there was a new version of the book in the pipeline. Self-pleasure, eh? Good advice!

I just finished the first edition, and I completely adored it. Has very much changed between the two?

As I mention in my post, the only differences are a new intro, new budget chapter, new cover, and new subtitle.

I love the new cover! I clicked on the Amazon link and it's suggesting you buy it together with "Offbeat Bride: Taffeta-Free Alternatives for Independent Brides" … that's a little misleading of them.

I wonder if you could get them to change the blurb on Amazon? The write-up for the new book has the "taffeta free" line in it. AND you can buy the old book bundled with the new one! Haha! I love the book, btw.

I wish. Sadly, that's something my publisher controls … I loathe that blurb, but it's out of my hands.

Yep. Gotta love Amazon's screwy algorithms!

Sales stump from a reader: if you love reading all the descriptions of OBB posts, imagine that as full-fleged advice and personal narrative with tons of stories from real brides thrown in the mix. Trust me: you're missing something special if you love the site and haven't read the book. I read the original over the course of three days and found myself searching for snippets from other brides and the clever little sidebars over and over again since! Consider it a pretty small investment in having 24-hour access to a best friend who is always there to tell you "Take a deep breath–you're not alone!"

Is your book available in-store anywhere in Missouri? My fiance and I have been looking for it for a long time, but no one seems to have it in stock. And between the mysterious virus lurking on my computer and the cost of shipping and handling, I always prefer to purchase things in person. I get to venture out of the house that way, too! So exciting!

The book is stocked in many chain bookstores, and can be ordered by ANY bookstore. Just ask 'em!
