Offbeat Bride | Offbeat Local

I've been scheming on this forevar, and thanks to jmdodd (my webdev) and offbeat megan, it's finally happening: Offbeat Local! No, it's not local vendor listings. For now, I'm leaving that game to every other wedding site on the web. Offbeat Local clusters the posts from our most popular cities onto pages so it's easy to browse regional wedding porn:

If your location isn't listed — never fear. We've covered hundreds of weddings from all over the world, and chances are good that if you search for your city, state or region using the search box up there in the top right, you'll find something. That said, we'll also be slowly rolling out additional Offbeat Local pages in coming months.

Excellent idea! I just wanted to second the "If your location isn't listed — never fear. We've covered hundreds of weddings from all over the world"… I never though Edmonton would have an offbeat wedding featured, and there was just one today!

      AARGH! ie6. I used to have a big banner on the site that was only visible with ie6 that basically said "YOU'RE USING IE6 AND SO THIS SITE ISN'T GOING TO WORK VERY WELL." I'll see what we can do, but IE6 is a notorious loser when it comes to, well, functioning.

        Yeah, I'm not a fan of IE6 AT ALL but I'm stuck with it at work. For some reason we got downgraded from 7. I much prefer Chrome.

      This is true for me as well whenever I use an IE based broswer. (Right now I'm on Maxthon, and I can't use the search box. Nothing happens when you click, and you can't type in the box.) At work, I use IE 8, and the same is true.
      
      All is fine on Firefox 3.5, however.

this is a great idea! One small quibble – "London" isn't a shorthand for UK. Perhaps you could consider changing the name "Offbeat London" to "Offbeat UK", since when I look at the weddings listed, there are lots taking place outside of London.

  Yeah, that's an issue with several international pages — London = UK, Sydney & Melbourne = Australia, Vancouver = British Columbia. I'm trying to work out language that makes sense for these cases. Thanks for the input.

      Yeah, I guess it's just in my head I thought of it as "cities" instead of oh, ENTIRE COUNTRIES … but Offbeat UK probably does make way more sense.

Tremendously embarassing request: This is an *awesome* idea that I completely support, but, er, our locale was misspelled in our OBB entry.

(I know: Massachusetts is not the easiest name to spell. I'm tempted to suggest MA as a safe alternative. We had similar trouble with the medieval tag.)

I also second the Boston tag, especially if you can reasonably include suburbs.
