How cute are these custom bridal flats?!

Another week for me to geek out on wedding shoes!

Last week, I heard from several readers who were like, “Yeah sure cute — but what about those of us who want to wear flats?” While I make a point to include flats in every batch of shoes I feature, because as someone who can't walk in a heel over 2 inches, I got nothing but love for the ladies who want to rock the flats on their wedding day.

And so, without further ado, here's my collection of lovely low heeled wedding flats that will make you feel 10 feet tall.

Comments on Wedding flats for brides who hate heels [UPDATED for 2022!]

  1. My wonderful partner and I started dating when I was 15. For my sixteenth birthday, he got me a pair of pink low top chuck taylor's. Six years later I still have those shoes and although they have been through a lot, I plan on wearing them for our wedding. Part of it is nostalgia and part of it is convenience. I love heels but have no talent for walking in them plus I can save money on shoes. 😉

      • I wish I still wore the same size as when I was 15! My feet were not so huge then…:p

    • That is FANTASTIC!!! MY dearest friend passed away several years ago and she was known for incorporating red shoes into just about every outfit… Needless to say, I will be rocking some gorgeous red shoes and have my friend with me every step of the way.

  2. I'll be 25 in 3 days and still can't walk in heels. I only have one pair of them but have never worn them. Not to mention, my boyfriend doesn't like me to wear heels because it will make me as tall or taller than he is! 🙂

  3. Mt crew convinced me I need to wear heels, and I'm pretty sure it'll result in a broken ankle. Wish I'd gone this route, although none of these really match my lime-green dress…

  4. I'm 5'11", and I definitely appreciate this post, since I'm so much taller than most of my friends anyway and I'd like them to be more at face- than boob-height.

  5. omg, thank you! i always thought that I will be the only bride who won't wear high heels 🙂 greets from germany! nadja

  6. Thank you soooo much for posting these! I love heels, and am constantly trying to wear them, but my feet and heels just do NOT get along. I'm sure if I try wearing some sexy stilettos at my wedding I'll either break something or have my feet hurting in the first half an hour and have to sit the day out! Not cool, so I'm probably sticking with flats to be safe. These are awesome and have given me some great ideas, thanks!

  7. Oh and imagine if that breaks while having your first dance, that wouldn't be funny.
maybe I will just stick to flats..

  8. Like I posted on Facebook: I wore flats at my wedding – so they'd be easier to kick off! 😀 I spent 2/3 of the night barefoot anyway…..

And it turned out to be easier to find gold flats than gold heels. Random.

  9. I love the look of heels but flats are so much more comfortable – and so cute! I'll most likely end up with flats for my wedding day (both for the comfort factor and the fact that I'll get much more wear out of them afterwards than if I bought heels!) though I'm also considering getting a pair of heels since I'm over a foot shorter than my fiance and having an extra couple of inches in some of the pictures may be nice!

  10. I love those silver shoes! I actually like heels, and can walk in them, but spending 4 hours or more in them, mostly on my feet? I don't think so. I'll probably start in heels and switch out later. Lavender heels to silver flats? Hmmm…….

  11. My finace and I are having an outdoor wedding, and I can't tell you how many times I've tripped because one of heels sunk in the grass. I'm not gonna risk having that happen on our big day, so I'm definetely wearing flats.

    • Cass, I have to say how cute it is that you just said “OUR big day.” And not “MY.” :]

  12. I wore slippers at my wedding and never once regretted it. And it had nothing to do with height-I'm 5'10 and my hubby is 6'7…..it was all about COMFORT! I do love heels….but standing in them for 12 hours straight? No thanks! Go for the flats!

  13. Oh, thanks! My fiance is just a hair shorter than me. I want to wear a shorter dress, but I don't want to look frumpy by my shoe choice. Even though I usually wear heels, I dearly want us to be eye-to-eye on our wedding day.

  14. Love these shoes! I went barefoot for my wedding. I had shoes to wear but I kicked them off just before walking down the aisle. Everyone thought it was hilarious….except my Grandma! 🙂

  15. A friend of mine just got married this September, and she wore a pair of cute white ballet-flat style Sketchers. They had a cute lace design on them, but weren't intended to be dressy shoes. They looked WONDERFUL! Paired with her dress, they really took on that non-casual air that made her outfit both gorgeous and FUN… because she was able to keep on dancing with us all night!

  16. I am having an outdoor wedding in January, inthe Canadian Rockies… wearing UGGs with my dress for the ceremony.

I did buy a fantastic turqouise pair of heels that I will rock at the reception though. Mainly because I love how I feel in heels and these ones are absolutely killer (although comfortable, if you are used to heels!).

Now, how do I hem the dress…. ?

    • I have been having a similar dilemma, in reverse. I have been having really bad foot pain in my left arch, so I don't think I can wear heels for my entire wedding extravaganza; I may just wear them for the ceremony, then change into some cute flats for the rest of the night….or wear flats the whole time. I think you (we) could bustle/tie up the dress slightly from the inside to create a shorter length, then let it out to the full length to wear with heels. I believe a talented seamstress (especially someone familiar with formal gowns) should be able to achieve this! (I hope!) Let me know if you have any other breakthroughs. 🙂 Good luck!

  17. yay thanks for this! I'm having a hard time finding flats I love, but I'm too tall to wear heels with my dress (plus I'd inevitably fall over and harm myself or others in them)!

  18. Awesome shoes, but most of them cost more that my dress did! I'll keep cruising the clearance section of DSW…

      • Ducks – those are awesome! I wanted a pair of flats from Payless (new eco-friendly brand called Zoe and Zac) but I waited too long and now they are all gone! It was this style, but aqua blue instead of pink:

  19. Like a few others, I'm taller than my fiancé, so the first thing I picked out after we got engaged was a pair of silver sequined ballet slippers. They make me, and my fiancé happy 🙂

  20. For all the tall women out there, or not-so-tall that feel more comfortable in flats (like me!), I have found some beaauuuutiful leather flip flops!! check out feesk sandals at http://www.etsy.com/shop/feesk
I am wearing the "cleopatra" at my beach wedding! They are super comfortable and TOTALLY unique, as flip flops go!

  21. PURPLE FLOWER FLATS! *squee* My dream shoes!

Now, here's a crazy shoe post idea – fun and funky shoes for your readers that come in the really small or really BIG sizes. I would die for those purple shoes, but they don't appear to be available in the size 11 I would need. 🙂

  22. I, like many other, am going flats for both comfort and so I am not taller then my Fiance. I am currently looking for a pair of sky/aqua blue shoes, but having some problems. I will keep my eyes open.

  23. Yay for comfort! I wore crippling heels for my brother's wedding, and vowed only comfortable shoes for my own! Surprisingly I found the perfect pair with minimal searching- brown and blue zebra print sequined flats. To match our safari themed wedding. But I probably would have worn them even without that theme!

  24. Thanks for the flats post! Now…if you can only do one on shoes that come in women's US size 12… I have a ridiculously difficult time finding women's shoes that fit, aren't tragically ugly, and are without heels.;)

  25. I wish I had more choice when I got married a couple of years ago. At that time the only flat shoes I can find was orthoheels. I am the same height as hubby plus my feet are pretty flat so heels kills after 30mins or so. Flats weren’t as popular back then (lol I sound old!) so I’m glad they are back in fashion now.

  26. I hated all of these. Its so hard to find nice flats, my boyfriend is as tall as me and I dont want to be taller than him

  27. I actually love heels. However, my fiance and I are very similar in height, and it would bother him if I wore my lovely 4″ heels. It’s wonderful to know that I can have flats and that they would be just as cute! Cute and making my hubby-to-be feel good about me not being too tall.
