Wedding flats for brides who hate heels

Peep Toe Flat with BowAnother week for me to geek out on wedding shoes!

Last week, I heard from several readers who were like, "Yeah sure cute — but what about those of us who want to wear flats?" While I make a point to include flats in every batch of shoes I feature, as someone who can't walk in a heel over 2 inches, I got nothing but love for the ladies who want to rock the flats on their wedding day.

And so, without further ado, here's my collection of lovely low wedding flats that will make you feel 10 feet tall:

  • My wonderful partner and I started dating when I was 15. For my sixteenth birthday, he got me a pair of pink low top chuck taylor's. Six years later I still have those shoes and although they have been through a lot, I plan on wearing them for our wedding. Part of it is nostalgia and part of it is convenience. I love heels but have no talent for walking in them plus I can save money on shoes. ;)

    • That is FANTASTIC!!! MY dearest friend passed away several years ago and she was known for incorporating red shoes into just about every outfit… Needless to say, I will be rocking some gorgeous red shoes and have my friend with me every step of the way.

  • I'll be 25 in 3 days and still can't walk in heels. I only have one pair of them but have never worn them. Not to mention, my boyfriend doesn't like me to wear heels because it will make me as tall or taller than he is! :)

  • Mt crew convinced me I need to wear heels, and I'm pretty sure it'll result in a broken ankle. Wish I'd gone this route, although none of these really match my lime-green dress…

  • I'm 5'11", and I definitely appreciate this post, since I'm so much taller than most of my friends anyway and I'd like them to be more at face- than boob-height.

  • Thank you soooo much for posting these! I love heels, and am constantly trying to wear them, but my feet and heels just do NOT get along. I'm sure if I try wearing some sexy stilettos at my wedding I'll either break something or have my feet hurting in the first half an hour and have to sit the day out! Not cool, so I'm probably sticking with flats to be safe. These are awesome and have given me some great ideas, thanks!

  • Oh and imagine if that breaks while having your first dance, that wouldn't be funny.
maybe I will just stick to flats..

  • Like I posted on Facebook: I wore flats at my wedding – so they'd be easier to kick off! :D I spent 2/3 of the night barefoot anyway…..

And it turned out to be easier to find gold flats than gold heels. Random.

I love the look of heels but flats are so much more comfortable – and so cute! I'll most likely end up with flats for my wedding day (both for the comfort factor and the fact that I'll get much more wear out of them afterwards than if I bought heels!) though I'm also considering getting a pair of heels since I'm over a foot shorter than my fiance and having an extra couple of inches in some of the pictures may be nice!

  • I love those silver shoes! I actually like heels, and can walk in them, but spending 4 hours or more in them, mostly on my feet? I don't think so. I'll probably start in heels and switch out later. Lavender heels to silver flats? Hmmm…….

  • My finace and I are having an outdoor wedding, and I can't tell you how many times I've tripped because one of heels sunk in the grass. I'm not gonna risk having that happen on our big day, so I'm definetely wearing flats.

  • I wore slippers at my wedding and never once regretted it. And it had nothing to do with height-I'm 5'10 and my hubby is 6'7…..it was all about COMFORT! I do love heels….but standing in them for 12 hours straight? No thanks! Go for the flats!

  • Oh, thanks! My fiance is just a hair shorter than me. I want to wear a shorter dress, but I don't want to look frumpy by my shoe choice. Even though I usually wear heels, I dearly want us to be eye-to-eye on our wedding day.

  • Love these shoes! I went barefoot for my wedding. I had shoes to wear but I kicked them off just before walking down the aisle. Everyone thought it was hilarious….except my Grandma! :)

  • A friend of mine just got married this September, and she wore a pair of cute white ballet-flat style Sketchers. They had a cute lace design on them, but weren't intended to be dressy shoes. They looked WONDERFUL! Paired with her dress, they really took on that non-casual air that made her outfit both gorgeous and FUN… because she was able to keep on dancing with us all night!

  • it would have been great to see TOMS shoes on this list. for every pair of shoes they sell they give a pair to a child who doesn't have any. they've done donations in south africa, south america, and in the US. super cute and they offer discounts if shoes are purchased for the whole wedding party.

  • I am having an outdoor wedding in January, inthe Canadian Rockies… wearing UGGs with my dress for the ceremony.

I did buy a fantastic turqouise pair of heels that I will rock at the reception though. Mainly because I love how I feel in heels and these ones are absolutely killer (although comfortable, if you are used to heels!).

Now, how do I hem the dress…. ?

    • I have been having a similar dilemma, in reverse. I have been having really bad foot pain in my left arch, so I don't think I can wear heels for my entire wedding extravaganza; I may just wear them for the ceremony, then change into some cute flats for the rest of the night….or wear flats the whole time. I think you (we) could bustle/tie up the dress slightly from the inside to create a shorter length, then let it out to the full length to wear with heels. I believe a talented seamstress (especially someone familiar with formal gowns) should be able to achieve this! (I hope!) Let me know if you have any other breakthroughs. :) Good luck!

  • yay thanks for this! I'm having a hard time finding flats I love, but I'm too tall to wear heels with my dress (plus I'd inevitably fall over and harm myself or others in them)!

  • Absolutely nothing wedding related-I just wanted to say thanks to Melanie for mentioning the thing about TOMS. I went to their site looking for shoes because I like to shop with companies that give back. Their shoes just aren't my style but they have other merchandise that they also do the one = one pair of shoes. I just bought my daughters hoodies for Christmas (we live in the town of TOMS River). I know they will like wearing them to high school and passing on the info about the company.

  • Like a few others, I'm taller than my fiancé, so the first thing I picked out after we got engaged was a pair of silver sequined ballet slippers. They make me, and my fiancé happy :-)
