Offbeat Bride: Lottie, Credit Analyst
Her Offbeat Partner: Clint, Auto Tech
Location & date of wedding: Fort Worth Texas — 09.27.08
What made our wedding offbeat: We wanted our wedding day to exude what we were as everyday people. We are just slightly offbeat by appearance. Only our friends and family understand the depth of our offbeatness.
Our ceremony was in a garden where we incorporated the symbolism of beauty, growth and love to our bond between each other.
We love Mexican culture and art so incorporating Dia de los Muertos touches was a must. From our colors, to the cake topper, to the Catholic chapel that was converted to a dinner hall for the reception.
We also both LOVE vintage cars so we had a '58 Rolls Royce pick us up and transport us.
In each detail I worked to integrate our style hoping that others could appreciate a day truly tailored by us.
Our biggest challenge: I would say having such a large bridal party was definitely a challenge. We could have scaled back but I wanted everyone that I loved, including all our great inspiring and diverse friends and family, to be a part of the day. We had twenty individuals to get prepared and ensure that everyone had what they needed.
I would say the best way we went about it was to relax and instead of having everything identical, we just let them do the details themselves. This helped everything along. Everyone looked great!!
My favorite moment: I would say it was when Clint and I were standing in front of everyone.
We had promised to not see each other until this moment. (It had been like 34 hours but felt like a damn week.) Well at this point we wanted to talk but really couldn't because Bryan (our officiant) had already began talking. All I wanted to do was put everything on pause so that we could talk about how beautiful everything was.
My advice for other brides: Do things yourself. Get involved! Integrate your style, whether your offbeat or not.
Enough talk — show me the wedding porn!:

I actually got it at Bridal Co. in Denton Texas. I had a designer make a heart bustline, add lots of tull underneath, and pin up the bustles. Her name is Leighanna Reynolds of Maybe Sew in Carrollton.

I just love reading about all the offbeat weddings that you feature. It's great to see people doing what they want and not what they think everyone wants them to do.

I'm having my wedding at the FW Botanic Gardens too. How strict were they about chairs and decorations? I get the feeling they're pretty strict. Any advice you have for working with them? Or things I should know? BEAUTIFUL PICTURES, by the way. Who did them? And where did you find your rental car? Thanks….

I was having a hard time with the whole "seeing each other before the wedding" thing too, but my photographer, (my best friend and matron of honor's mom) said that what she does is right before the ceremony, she boots everyone out of where it is to take place, and has the bride and groom come together (pics or no pics-whatever you want) for a nice first moment. She says that it gives you a chance to say things to each other, hug, kiss, whatever before you have to do the ceremony (because you won't get to-like you said.) I think it's a great alternative to those who don't want to see each other before the ceremony.
