Offbeat Bride | The Offbeat Bride is Offbeat Pregnant

Big announcement from me today: I'm three months pregnant! Andreas and I couldn't be more excited … I'm due December 1st.

(And yes: I already have offbeatmama.com registered, along with offbeatcareer.com, offbeatwife.com, and the umbrella URL, offbeatlife.com. I haven't decided what if anything I'm doing with any of them — I can barely keep up with Offbeat Bride, and the prospect of adding more sites while also adding a baby to the equation feels completely unfeasible. But we'll seeeee.)

Update September 2009:
OFFBEAT MAMA HAS BEEN BORN!

You likely won't notice many changes around here, although you may notice a few less posts from me and a few more from Offbeat Intern Megan and Offbeat Alum Shrie … but for the most part ain't nuthing changing on Offbeat Bride, despite my now being Offbeat Knocked Up.

Ariel, don't worry about sleep dev. It's for a short period and it'll pass. If you're the type of person that doesn't care if the house falls apart around you it won't matter, you just sleep when you can.
If he woke between 12 and 5am I used to take my little boy into bed with me, feed him a little and he'd fall asleep with my breathing. I know a lot of people think that's a big no-no but it worked wonderfully for us and he turned out a very independant little fella. You do whatever works for you and your family. Just remember there's a heap of books out there, but no instruction manuel.

Not to overwhelm you with more info, but if you fear losing sleep the answer lies in cosleeping and breastfeeding. I can count on one hand how many nights i lost sleep. and KEEP HOOPING! suprisingly its an amazing birth preparation exercise, the hoop needs to be light weight or just spin it above or below your belly if its tender. I have women hula hoop their hips thru contractions and it works so well at easing things the ones I'm still in contact with all say they use it too stop menstrual cramps now. it forces your surrounding muscles to relax so your uterus can work painlessly & effficiently. And ditto on Mothering Magazine, its the only mag with safe and sound advice that never makes me cringe with fear or horror that trusting people are reading it. Unasisted Childbirth and Ina may's Guide to childbirth I wish were required reading, everyone should be able to enjoy their birth. You've got this! Your offbeatness will make for phenominal parenting because you know your kid didn't come from a cookie cutter and you'll make choices accordingly. This kid will be sooo lucky to have independant intelligent parents! enjoy your pregnancy, birth, and baby!

Congrats! I have a 7 and 10 year old, so I've done things a bit backwards! I hope to get knocked up again in the fall! I'm very impressed by all the "Hippie moms" recommending the homebirth, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, etc. I second all of that! There are great groups on CafeMom for until you get your OffBeat Mama site going Remember the phrase "Co-sleep is you want sleep!"

Congrats to you!! I just found out I was pregnant Monday, and here I am looking for different styles of birth announcements, thinking "I wish there was an offbeatmom.com or offbeatpregnant.com", and low and behold I found this news! Congrats again and it would be wonderful if one of those other sites showed up. There's a lot of interest, for sure!
