The Offbeat Bride: Alexzandra, Personal Assistant

My Offbeat Partner: Kevin, teacher

Location & date of wedding: Glessner House Museum in Chicago, IL — 08/09/08

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding was offbeat because it reflected my unusual African and Mongolian background, which we dubbed Afrolian, and the groom and brides love of punk rock.

African punk rock wedding cake.

We wanted something fun and glamorous without going over our $5000 budget. Well, our guest list more then doubled and so did our budget, but we were able to achieve our goal of glamour, punk rock, zebra and lace within our 5 month planning period. It was a blast.

And the bridesmaids have more tattoos then the Hell's Angels and our pastor was our best friend from the Teen Idol's who has a black eye.

Our biggest challenge: Our biggest challenge was our budget. Since I work as an essential personal assistant I live and breath food, expensive things, and diamond encrusted everything. The only problem is my paycheck doesn't afford me the luxury to spend $300,000 on a wedding.

Oh ya, there was an adorable outfit change as well!

My favorite moment: My favorite moment was when we were announced as husband and wife.

My advice for other offbeat brides: Throw tradition out the window. Do something that means something to both of you… and don't fight too much.
