Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

Chastidy & Rick's Punk-Rock-Paper-Scissors wedding
Posted by Offbeat Elves · Real Weddings: Western US

The offbeat bride: Chastidy, barista

Her offbeat partner: Rick aka "Mo," cd slinger

Location & date of wedding: Lake Sacagewea, Longview WA – Aug. 16th 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: I wanted my wedding to be inspired a bit by the retro lifestyle I love so much, a bit by polka dots because I love them so, and a lot by us! And I think it turned out fabulous. We all adorned classic chucks, my pug Munster was my ring bearer, my girls danced down the aisle to a What a Wonderful World cover by the one and only Joey Ramone and, well, we played rock paper scissor to determine who had to say those scary vows first. ;) I think my conservative family was a bit thrown by our brightly colored hair, punk rock music, and silly antics but, hey, that's us!

Our biggest challenge: Finding black anything in AUGUST! Originally we were going to have a cupcake tower but I wanted black cupcake wrappers and they just don't make them. Apparently, polka dot anything was also more challenging then originally planned. My dress was originally going to be polka dot, and as you can see I didn't conquer one of my tasks.

My favorite moment: I have two favorite moments. One would be my bridesmaids dancing down the aisle, it sure surprised the guests. And also the rock paper scissors that no one, not even our wedding party, even knew about. We actually had to play best 3 out of 5 because we were throwing the same things!

Munster says relax

My advice for other offbeat brides: Make it you and you'll have a blast, I've had many people say they'll never forget our wedding. Plan ahead. The more off the beaten trail you go the harder you'll have to look. And don't sweat the small stuff, in the end no one will notice anyway.

Enough talk — here's the wedding porn:

i LOVE the dress! I've been looking for one like that too. I've decided to have a tutu made from an Etsy shop and a corset made also.
And, I'm TOTALLY having my dog be my ring-bearer too! He's even in the program!
You guys rock!
