Oooo, I'm having Dr. Horrible flashbacks with all that NPH singing.

Funnily, as a persecuted queer in Catholic catechism class, I never heard a word about NT verses condemning homosexuality.

For anyone looking for more on OT and NT and marriage, I recommend "What is Marriage For?" by EJ Graff. Excellent book about marriage and its traditions throughout history, from a pro-Gay marriage standpoint. The author is a lesbian, I believe.

On topic: I love me some NPH.

Most Christians probably wouldn't sweat if asked why the Law of the OT isn't binding anymore. There are many NT verses (and it is doctrine in many denominations) that Jesus' death freed us from the covenant of the Law and let us enter a new covenant based on faith and grace.

http://epistle.us/hbarticles/clobber1.html

The above is an excellent, in depth look at the main verses used against gay people. Even if you don't include the OT verses, there's not much to go on. Jesus never mentions homosexuality (yet he talks a lot about caring for the poor and not judging other people, hmmm), and Paul probably wouldn't have known homosexuality outside of cultic prostitution or pagan ritual--certainly not a committed lifetime relationship!

Bottom line, Biblical exegesis is helpful when trying to decide if a church is going to accept or condemn homosexuals. But it has no place in determining the laws of the United States.

Can you direct me to the New Testament verses about homosexuality? I'm curious about them.

I love Neil Patrick Harris.

And libbyblue, if someone's willing to write off the OT and not the NT, ask them why. That should make them sweat a little!

I love pieces like this, but they fail to address major Christian arguments. Shrimp cocktail and polyester are banned in the Old Testament. Gayness is banned in the Old *and* New Testaments, although Jesus, rather notably, never mentions it. (The NT "eww, unnatural gay" bit comes from prudish Paul, who didn't think anybody should get married unless they really had to to contain their base urges.) Pretty much every anti-gay Christian will rebut the arguments presented here by saying the OT commandments don't matter, but NT prohibitions do. Can anybody come up with a snappy reply based on the New Testament, preferably in rhyming song lyrics?

Yes Jennifer that is Doogie Howser, and I hope I am not bursting anyone's bubble, but he is gay.

Personally I plan to give up shellfish and get me some slaves after watching this, thanks Ariel!

This is awesome! I love it. And anything with Jack Black in it makes it even more amazing.

To Ariel and others:

There is a amazing speach by Keith Olbermann in circulation right that is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. It is about Prop 8, but it's not just speaking to gay rights, but it fights for the right of love everywhere. I hope you guys check it out. Please spread it around!
