Hey, I'm Ariel, author of the book Offbeat Bride: Taffeta-Free Alternatives for Independent Brides. This blog is just the tip of the offbeat iceberg — for the whole story you'll need the book, which is half memoir, half tipster handbook. I also blog at Electrolicious.
You're reading a page from the offbeatbride.com archives. You can read the
alternative wedding blog and access all webpage features on the

March 22nd, 2007 · 9:16 AM · #Oh the terror *shudder* I went to the wedding show here in Seattle on a mission. I was out to meet the companies I had in mind to provide our linens and get as much shwag as possible.
I did end up going with a different company for linens and got 10% off on their specail for the show. I also found someone else for chaircovers AND I won 25% off of my wedding flowers in a drawing. Many of the vendors were offering great deals, often there will be killer deals on dresses and other “bridal essentials”. Don’t let anyone push you into what you don’t want, stick to your guns. But take advatage of the shwag and the drawings, brides are luckier than most you know.
My best advice when going to these horror shows. 1)Go with a plan. Why are you going? What do you need? Who to talk to first. 2)Create an email address especially for things like contest entries and contacts. This will save you from Spam.
3) Make labels with your name, address, phone, & wedding show email and stick them on playing cards as well as keep some aside to enter contests. This will save you tons of time and effort. Plus people got a kick out of it when I said “here’s my card” and handed them an actual playing card.
